BMW should try bringing in the 1 series. X1 looks like a 3-series mod job having gone wrong.

When inquired about pricing from a BMW official, he quoted a band of 24-28L which frankly would take competition to dust!

Now, I just hope it comes true.

A BMW SUV within 30 Lakh! Its going to sell like hot cakes. Even 3 series customers may end up buying the X1.

Ugh. Our own DC has got company. X1 is uglier than DC's creations. I would not buy it for free.

Completely agree with the comments about this being really ugly!

Currently I am outside India and get to see quite a few Beemers from the pre-Bangle era and marvel how one man's vision of being different for the sake of being different has made BMW designs one of the ugliest (in my opinion).
If one just plonks in some technological changes like LED headlamps in the older 3 series (pre-Bangle), it looks better than the current 3-series.

I believe if one looks at the Audi's, they have achieved the best in design harmony. Designs that will age well.

Absolutely agree with you.

I'm not sure whether BMW will launch it here as already doing good volumes and the X1 has the potential to cannibalise 3 series sales as well.

I am not a big fan of X3/X5 and do not like their looks, never driven one. I have not seen X1, BMW brand may find some buyers in India.

.
You would like to run for my blood. I liked the E60 5-series. (Probably the only Bangle BMW I liked)

Although I would agree with you about pre-bangle era cars as the E34 was the design I liked best (I have already taken into acount E39 when I made the statement).

@1100D
You are right about the E60 5-series. That's just about the only Bangle'd BMW I like. It's a design which atleast seemed harmonious.

I felt like tearing my hair out when I saw cars like the Z4 (the Z3 itself wasn't a great design, but it looked positively handsome next to the Z4), the 7 series (E-65). Naturally, all the Bangle'd designs started selling like hot cakes and I started to bake a lot of humble pie for myself .

OT: My girlfriend has perhaps hit the nail on the head by saying, "your sense of fashion is from the 1950's"

I been told by my sources that X1 will be launched with a 25 lakh price tag. Not too sure how true this is but I anticipate the pricing to be in the sub 30 lakh category.

Whats not to like in the X1. IMHO its a great looking SUV and it'll serve good competition for the CRV, Captiva, Fortuner and the likes. Now only if BMW prices it right...

Why will anyone buy the x1 ? look at the proportions, its even smaller compared to the CRV.

Just because its got a BMW badge doesn't mean people will lap it up, IMHO this is a completely pointless car.

cheers,
ac

X1 at 25-27 Lakhs would be quite good a proposition.

1. Compact size - good for regular city use also.
2. Diesel - economical
3. Badge - Need not say any more
4. Performance - the best you would get in this segment.
5. SUV/SAV (whatever) - high GC ensures you don't have to worry much about the road conditions we have.

In all it would be quite a practical buy for folks wanting a combination of luxury, performance, handling and practicality for everyday usage. The euro-build and the badge you get as bonus. As a package it is quite tempting if 25-27 L band is met.
