Wow! The diesel Ignis variant sounds nice!
A better VFM option to the diesel Fiesta.

I just hope Tata gets the 3-box look right, and not like its an afterthought like on the d-zire and current indigo.

you guys forgot the Linea. competition for the Indigo needn't go further than their own showrooms. It'll be interesting to see how tata/Fiat will market the two competing cars together. also with the same engines!!
So is this the end of the Dicor range of engines?

Great scoop Sid. A new membership level of Super Scooper will be apt.

I hope that the quality on this edition of the Indigo improves. The features list just begs for good quality in build and finish.

If that is the case, it should blow away competition in that category. I wonder though what the 1.3 quadrajet state of tune will be - 75 bhp or 90?

Great work as usual Sid.

With those dimentions, it is longer and wider them the Indigo XL with simler wheelbase. So it will be segment leader in space & comfort.

Will it be the new Taxi?

The new indigo seems bigger and with the 1.3 MJD it should again be an instant hit amongst taxis and tourist vehicles. The rear bench of the current indigo is quite roomy as well.

What is TATA going to do for Diwali? Please give us the Linea 1.6 atleast for Diwali.
Though Linea 1.6 is also a possibility, TATA may surprise us by launching X-over / Indicruz this Diwali.
It was mentioned somewhere that the launch date of X-over is indeed very close. Launching X-over might also be the reason why TATA would be launching this car in Dec. 2009 or early 2010.

In reality, Tatas started working on the sedan quite early. Eventhough it wasn't a ground-up sedan design, AFAIK, the post B-pillar design was in-line with a sedan design philosophy. It's definitely NOT like a sedan made out of necessity - nor a design that just pastes a boot like a bottom-uplift-plastic_surgery-gone-wrong.

The company has invested a lot of time & resources on quality lately. This explains, to a large extent, the reason in the delay of X1-sedan as well as the X1-hatchback (the new Vista).

I really wish that the basic shortcomings of weld quality, plastic's plastic-ness and issues like water-ingress in rains are taken care of.I had a chance to see the proto builds of the car around 1.5 years ago. I can presume, optimistically, that the company has used the time to improve upon all the areas that Tata vehicles have been notoriously known for.

I doubt that.
Linea looks more of a civic-altis segment car and most buyers are smitten by its looks. Can indigo vista match those looks? Am doubtful.
Its the dzire i feel which will be most affected.

How come the same 1.3 MJD gives such different power performances across companies ? Has FIAT altered the fuel-maps etc. in the EMS for different companies ? For Tata it is ~77bhp@4000, for linea ~90bhp@????, Swift ~87@6000 ... any insights ? Are these companies allowed to tune the engines as per their business propositions / marketing strategies ?

it'll definitely pull the guys who are fiat engine fans. I totally agree with you on the looks front. I'm smitten too. but a hard thinker would only move away when he knows the same engines do duty in the indigo and there comes the thinking hat. all attracted by the VFM indgo.

These figures are preliminary and may be altered.

Swift has 75 ps, ditto for vista, punto has 76 ps, dzire again 75 all use FGT.
Linea's engine has 86 ps with VGT.
