No mention of price though anywhere on the site nor the paper.

Starting price is mentioned in the official press release at tatamotors.com.

Tata group | JLR | Media releases | Land Rover launches Freelander 2 in India

According to this 33.79 Lakhs for S-Trim.

I researched the pricing of Freelander Vs X-Trail and Freelander comes out heavily overpriced:

Here is a quick comparison:
Nissan X-Trail (SLX MT) - £20539 (UK) - 23.18Lakhs (India)
Freelander 2 (S) - £21060 (UK) - 33.79Lakhs (India)

For UK pricing refer to:
Freelander: Land Rover Freelander 2 2.2Td4 S Station Wagon 5d 2179cc full specification - BBC Top Gear
XTrail: Nissan X-Trail 2.0dCi 148 Trek Station Wagon 5d 1995cc full specification - BBC Top Gear

i thought the freelander was a ford escape underneath?

please can any one ellaborate on this?

Anyone has any ideas about the various trim levels? The site is extremely sketchy & has no details other than the colors & the basic specs.

My Two observations on the same:
1. Expensive-Lack of Equipment
2. Available only in 1 Showroom-in Mumbai only

These Two reasons will contribute alot in its Low Sale Figures...........

Huge full page ad in TOI Blr today

The Freelander is a pretty nice looker but in some ways looks similar to the X Trail.

The Brit Consulate in Madras used to have one which Ive seen many times hanging around in Madras and Pondicherry in 2001-2002-2003.

Frankly while it is a Landy, I still feel it is way over-priced for normal joe's like most of us.

Methinks only the well-heeled poseurs will pick this vehicle up and then also, not for its utility and capabilities but for the snob value it carries.

I don't know why people are pointing that freelander will crush x3, q5 & even M class.
I think with the equipment list this vehicle carries, it's way too priced high.
Let bmw X1 come out and then see the fight. Bmw would definetly carry more features than this car. But looks wise this one is better.

The Freelander is priced a bit high. In the range of the X Trail it could have been a success. Also British automobiles are slightly higher priced then the rest. They should start manufacturing these in India at least.

Get the DEFENDER please. I won't buy one yet, but i will surely visit the showroom in Mumbai just to salivate looking at one.

Ah ha! the Defender! Now that is one heck of a vehicle - my favourite one too!

You should buy the Landrover magazine - Landmark Book store is on Sale now and they have the older issues available at Rs 50 per magazine.

Amongst other things which you will enjoy reading in that magazine, you will see some deadly ads for Landrovers available in the UK (used) at prices ranging from as low as GBP 2500 onwards.

I wish we could bring in some used or to be slightly snobbish - "pre-owned" cars into India from abroad at a reduced rate of duty - this would be fantastic for guys who love some of these vehicles but lack the doubloons to indulge themselves by buying new vehicles of that category.

Disappointed by the high price and lack of equipment. For a 33 Lakh price vehicle, it does not have ICE System. TATA has already manufacturing facilities. Atleast, they should have started with CKD. Like Nissan, Tata is giving step motherly treatment to Indian Market.

Well for the brand of Land Rover , 33 lakhs is a really economy SUV. That probably explains the lack of the goodies usually packed in the Land Rover vehicles. At this price I suppose there would be plenty of takers as compared to the fully loaded version.

isnt this based on the Ford Escape/Mercury Mariner? if i m not wrong?
