If the car manufacturers were to do all of the above at one go, it'd simply be a 'new' car in itself, not an upgrade !
Manufacturer makes cars for sale, not to please or disappoint any forum. Point we are discussing here is will new upgrade boost the much needed sale. If at very inception we have negative answer for this VVt version, whats the fun with an upgrade ?

I personally own a Sx4 for last 2 years, its wonderful car. Its key attributes are unfound in rivals. It started well with sale chart, dragged City to no 2 spot but very quickly lost its steam. In general MSIL products have lots of quality related issues and Sx4 though being branded premium but later we discovered with same inheriting MSIL quality bugs.

You said it. I guess the reason SX4s lack of sales is the perception of a fuel guzzler. Of course there are lot of areas of improvement, but then it is there in any car even in a "H" badged one. There is no perfect car.

But I can say this : If Maruti wants to really move the SX4 off showroom floors, a 1.6 / 1.9 DDIS is the only way.
Hi GTO, if you feel Sx4 with 1.6/1.9 DDiS may do wonders for MSIL, then let me know why Verna diesel is roughly selling at quarter the volume of ANHC? Is something wrong with product or Korean badge?

The Korean Badge. Hyundai is successful in India only in the small Car segment. In Middle east, Hyundai (Or any Korean brand) is only for expats.

The only great thing about the Verna is the 'CRDi'.
It isnt very inspiring in Most of the other aspects - handling, stability, fun to drive, looks, features etc.
SX4 is much better positioned here, comparatively.

Also think why Swift DDiS in its days clocked such huge numbers, outscoring combined sales of Getz, UVA and the likes.

SX4 At is good

The upgrade is really nice. Capable VVT engine and an autobox what more can we expect.Unlike the city which don't have alloys, SX4 is already loaded with tons of features. Maruti has really done what customers wanted.

Will Maruti be the first to launch the awesome 1.6/1.9 DDiS Engine in SX4 ? Fiat better stick as supplier of Engine technology.

Few more additions would have made the SX4 brand a good volume player for Maruti:

1. More power from 1.6L Petrol motor: at around 120BHP - will prove to be a good performer.
2. The 1.6L Diesel - Diesel mileage advantage.
3. A 1.4L K-Series (does it exist?) Petrol engine with around 100BHP power - Petrol mileage advantage.
4. The SX4 hatchback with both 1.4L Petrol and 1.6L Diesel engines - can target the super hatch segment.

The facelifted ANHC DOES come with alloy wheels now.
