Swift with the K series engine? Update: Launched.

Any update on when the swift will be launched with the new k series engine from the Ritz. It is inevitable that Maruti will do that, but when? I heard rumours that it would be done in October - but it seems that there are no signs of it being launched - or is it all hush-hush??

Is it the same K12-M in the Ritz or is it going to be the M-Series for the Swift, any info guys ?

I am stating about the M-Series because i have seen one VVT Swift in Philippines when i was there in September-2008, so if it is a VVT then i think it will M-Series as i have not heard of K-Series wtih VVT.

I wish it is an engine of 1300cc or more and not the 1200. I have a feeling that if may turn out to be a stroked out K-series!

Should be out soon and would be worth the wait. The K series engine on the Ritz is quite peppy and is more refined than the old gen 1.3L

Expect better bottom end, refinement, mileage and cost savings (petrol engines with sub 1200 CC qualify for lower excise duty).

In India the Ritz comes with 1198 cc engine called K12M. Internationally splash comes with 1242cc K12B motor. I hope they bring out K12B with around 87-89 bhp for Siwft. Forget the tax benefit, without a larger engine, Swift will not be as fun as it is now.

Next possibility can be M series engine. In UK, Swift sells with M13 motor that meets the current emession norms in UK. They can bring the same in Swift. M series is heavier unit, where as the K series is lighter.
Personally I would prefer a 1300cc K series unit developing around 90-91 bhp.

Unlikely thanks to the tax benefits associated with a 1.2L petrol. Believe me, that 1.2L petrol from the Ritz is an absolute all-rounder. Great refinement, driveability, efficiency and power. I see only this engine eventually making its way into the Swift. Will Maruti wait until the emission norms force it to (in 2010)? I think so. The current 1.3, being a VERY old engine, has got to be cheaper to manufacture.

@aagoswamy:
Ideally, I'd like the M16A vvt with 125bhp in the swift. But, this is India.
As GTO says, The 1200 k series engine makes economic sense and would make the swift even more competitive against its rivals.

Now, is there a turbo-charged K12 sold by suzuki anywhere?

I thought so too - they will wait till around Feb/ March to launch this and I am sure they will look at a slight refresh as well.

I hope they launch the swift with new k series engine and also hope that they rebadge the new swift as the Suzuki Swift Ignis.
I don't know why but i just like the sound of it "Suzuki Swift Ignis"

Will there be in the 1.2 K series engine vs the old 1.3 motor?

If yes, will that offset the lower cubic capacity??

Let Maruti decide what engine they want to put it in new Swift, but, as a customer, i would really love to see the swift with improved suspension and rear seat comfort, it badly needs the upgrade.

i have news from a reliable friend over at bosch, who states that the new swift which will be bs-4 will be launched with a K-SERIES engine. whether it will be the 1.2 litre engine from the ritz is yet unconfirmed.

also there is news that the swift will be getting the 1.6 litre heart of the popularly known SWIFT SPORT sometime next year (read as third quarter).

first the SX4 will be launched with a 1.6 litre petrol engine, followed by the launch of the 1.6 multijet sx4 ( but only after 1.6l linea is launched)

the new restyled WAGON-R will be coming to india soon too. it will be having the K-SERIES engine from the estilo and surprise surprise, also the 1.3multijet which features in the swift/ritz.

Superveloce,
You seem to be getting a lot of credible information, personally believe the 1.6 SX-4 should be a good bet and a winner as well. It should be selling well compared to Hyundai Verna...
