Interesting points from the ACI Review-

The 1.2 puts out 84bhp which is about 3bhp less than the outgoing 1.3-litre G13B. However, out on the road, the new engine does an even better job than the old Esteem unit.

While they were at it, Maruti also decided to tweak the suspension. The Swift now rides better than before with less bumps filtering into the cabin.

Does this mean softer suspension? What about handling then.

Nice is the great news as far as i care . The older one use to make much of noise, though the 2009 models of G13 dont make much rattle(rather no rattles). i really dont know why MSIL isn't care of improving its Interiors on Swift? .

Softer suspension is a +
Improved torque and power is a ++
Improved FE is +++

Handling would have taken a beating for sure, even though it would be good enough. The route Maruti is taking somehow tells me that we wouldn't have a 1.6 Swift Sport.

Yeah.. Blue_pulsar. You are right. This is absolutely pathetic. Even tata vista saffire returns more FE that this. Another thing to notice is the Kerb weight. According to MUL propaganda machine, this is suppose to be lighter engine w/ all aluminum body. But, the kerb weight of the new swift tells us the different story.

From the review it says,
"Tests indicate fuel efficiency is also better than before"

So, maybe they drove it differently.

ARAI figures are better platform to compare FE, and i think swift 1.2 returns almost 2kmpl more than the older G. (Dont remember exact values)

And judging by the FE people are getting in the heavier Ritz, i dont see a reason why it shouldn't be the case in the Swift.

It seems that the Swift tested by ACI was the top-end ZXi variant.But hey! No fogs?!

Apart from the VVT badging on the front fenders,the new SX4 also comes with new multi-spoke alloys on the ZXi variant!

Hi Fellow members,

I too have booked my Swift ZXI K series 2 weeks ago, the Car has arrived in the yard today and I have been promised delivery on or before Wednesday the 10th of February. I have already told the sales person that I am interested in visiting the Yard with my checklist .

If I make it to the yard tomorrow, I will try my best to take pics and answer some of the questions everyone has viz. - Interiors (dashboard), Transmission etc.

Is there anything in particular you guys would like me to check out? And yes, how to determine whether the engine is a K Series one for sure?

Source: Maruti Suzuki Not Sharing Excise Benefits On Swift With Customers

Maruti Suzuki the major car manufacturer of India, will not be passing the benefits of lower excise duty on Maruti Suzuki Swift petrol variant to it’s customers. The company will save around Rs.40000 per car, but not passing this benefit to customer. Maruti is blaming a cost spike for its decision, a departure from the past.

Cars under 4 meters length with 1.2-liter petrol engines and 1.5-liter diesel engines attract an 8% excise duty while other passenger vehicles are taxed at 20%. Maruti, launched the 1.2-liter petrol Swift in January, but retained the Rs 4-lakh base price of its 1.3-liter model. The smaller engine attracts an 8% excise duty, 12% lower than that of the phased-out bigger version.

Maruti is saying that there is cost increase because the Swift is equipped with new variant of engine, so they are not passing the benefits to customers. Lets hope that soon they will rethink their decision and may pass some benefits to the consumer.

But then they are just using the power of being the market leader. True that a new engine needs costs inputs which can then be amortized over a large period. This is plain profiteering.

But then again, if you don't like it, don't buy it.

@ Sheel : Well within. The Swift's length is only 3,760 mm.

It's a business decision and I had expected Maruti to retain the Swift's pricing, considering that the car is a best seller. Of course, it absolutely sucks from the customer's perspective and defeats one of the main reasons behind the excise benefits in the first place.
