Internet Penetration in India is hovering around 6 - 7 %.
So take this data with a pinch of salt.
less than 7% of people buying / influencing 33% of car sales ?? not really IMO
( most of the internet portals on automobiles use English , which again is used by a minuscule percentage of Indians.. Mumbai , Delhi , BAngalore & chennai & metros do not make India )
Just as an analogy , BJP did a very impressive net campaign during recent general polls using google ads, twitter, blogs etc. One could see LK advanis ads in most web pages then.
If internet in India was such an effective medium, NDA should have come back to power. IMO , BJP / NDA also mistook the vocal minoroty on indian internets as the real voice of India, showing a major disconnect with Bharat.

No. of cars sold in India is about 1 Million out of a total population of 1 Billion or 1000 Million. As per IAMAI, till last year India had about 80 Million high usage Internet Users. So this figure is in tandem with the greater picture.

Before booking my Fiat Linea 1.4 petrol Emotion Pack FTA, I did thorough research on posts in Team-Bhp, other automobile fora and manufacturer's websites for more than 5 months comparing various brands/models/versions/prices/tech specs/features. This time, I was offered TD at my doorstep. Earlier in 2004, when I bought my Maruti Suzuki Versa, the case was different. I personally visited various dealerships to gather details and TD. JD Power's findings reflect emerging India.

I'm sure I probably discovered Team-BHP during my car-buying --- but then, the internet had become an established part of my life for several years before coming to India.

I am not at all surprised to see the result. Its always better to take a word from hoses mouth before putting your lacs of hard earned money for any car. When net is available why not to use it. You are getting a million dollar advice free of cost !!!
I also used net before buying my Dzire. When i read so many users review that its a very good car, i had no doubt before purchasing it !!! I am happy that i referred the net for this
