I am convinced with the interiors pictures.(They are not great or anywhere near to the awesome grey look in VW UK specs - but its bearable) I am worried about the engine quality. Well, time will tell.

With 50% localization, the spares will be relatively cheaper. So i thinks thats a no brainer.

Now, coming to the A*S*S, i am in Bangalore which has 2 service centers ONLY. Well, if this little piece of machinery generates the hype which Polo created in Germany or UK where there were 25-40K bookings - i am not sure how the limited dealership will take the load. i think the maintenance timings as mentioned in UK website is 15K.

First Polo rolls out. - motoring news - News : Overdrive

Overdrive says only 2 engines. From the article ---
"The Polo which has been eagerly awaited in the Indian market will be available in showrooms by March. It will be available with two engine options- a 1.2 litre petrol engine same as the one seen on the Skoda Fabia and a 1.2 litre common rail diesel engine and will be available in five trim levels. Have heard that the rear headroom of the car is short. From the video it seems that the guy who is sitting behind is a correct fit, or is it because he is too tall like some 6.5ft ?

What is this 1.2 crdi engine you guys are talking about? Is it a brand new one? The bluemotion one perhaps?

If the bookings are high, setting up of dealerships won't be an issue. The dealers will come running to vw

IMO engine seems just like from Fabia, and the interior quality is not much interesting compare to internationally available POLO, here comes the price wars.
Pedals position also seems like cramped, very uncomfortable.

My take is the 1.2 TSI will be available if at all on the Polo sedan, which was why we used to see spy pics of a Polo hatch testing with a Verna and a Linea. I think they are benchmarking for the 100 odd bhp mini-saloon.

Similarly, i think the 1.4 TSI will come to India only in a Mark 6 Golf (if it ever does).

If the Polo hatch has to get a 1.4, it will be the regular MPi engine that gave so much trouble in the Fabia and is also doing duty as a launch engine in other international markets for the Polo.

My 'educated' guess!

One more feature I noticed missing is the folding key fob. Looks like a simple key to me in the red car. At this rate, the Fabia comes across with more goodies inside!
I wonder if the rumor of 5 trim levels is true.
There is trend and comfort, maybe a highline.. what are the other two then? Euro spec?!
In a slightly unrelated aside, the alloys on the comfortline (body colored silver version) look the same as those on the Polo sedan caught testing under wraps outside the country.
And comfortline does not have a rear wiper!

Even the Punto has a foldking key chain/key.

Having stuff like that as options does not make sense, they would need to sell too many of each variants to get benifit of scale costing, makes sense to just have 3 models with significant changes between them.

I mailed the chennai vw dealer and they state that:

- 2 Petrol engines
- 1 Diesel
- Price band of 4-6 lakhs

What is this elusive 2nd petrol engine?! perhaps it is the 1.2 TSI after all?

I'd be very happy to be wrong, but all reasonable indications tells me this is a 1.4 MPI with a 85PS output. Now, where have we seen that one before??

3 engines will be there.

the 1.2 petrol
the 1.2 diesel

and then later on the 1.2 TSI petrol.
