I do love the Polo, I liked the 6N and 6N2 models from back around '98-2000 then the design became pretty crap. But I really like this new design. I think Polos are losing their performance a little bit though, the old school ones were so much nippier and sounded better.

Yup the 1.2 TDI is coming as per ACI , one of top heads from VW mentioned that target price for 1.2 tdi is 4.99 lacs ex showroom Delhi. That would be a steal , Butttttt we need to see what quality we get at that price!!! Please get the smokey headlamps VW!!!

I just read in Hindu newspaper that 3 engine options are coming. Petrol 1.2 , Diesel 1.2 TDI and hold your breadth Petrol 1.6.

Below is the exact information that I read.

Base 1.2L Petrol : The base Polo will come with 3 cylinder 1.2Litre motor with an updated engine management system to offer better response and marginally more power. This engine will be BSIV complaint from the start. VW has pegged the base Polo at 4.34Lakhs (ex-showroom Delhi).

1.2 L TDI - 1.2L TDI developing 74bhp is also expected for Rs 4.99 Lakhs. This all new 3 cylinder diesel motor promises class leading fuel economy and is likely to be the mainstay of the Polo range.

1.6L Petrol - Range topper will be 1.6 petrol that develops a healthy 100bhp and is aimed at those looking for a fully loaded hot hatch. The Polo's 1.6 is futuristic and meets the latest emission standards.

Won't the 1.6 Petrol be the same engine as the one in Jetta?

How good is a 3-cylinder engine going to be? Is it some new-gen technology from VW that can maintain 4-cyl levels of refinement with better fuel efficiency? I know BMW and Merc have been working on such concepts but probably we might not get that tech at 5 L.

If it is going to be an unrefined engine, I dont see it being successful since you can buy a 4-Cyl MJD/DDIS/QJ powered car for less.

oh no!!! no more TSI engine :(, i think they would have issues regarding fuel quality and stuff like the skoda 1.4 petrol engine!!

man i can't wait for it!!, i mean i have too but lolz its very hard, well i wouldn't mind pottering around town in a 1.2 fuel efficent petrol vw in 4.xx lacs.... sounds too tempting. i will beleive only when i see it for real.

3 cylinder unit

IMO, a 3 cylinder motor is normally noisy with low refinement.
Any other disadvantages having a 3 cyclinder one in Polo when compared to the 4 cylinder multijet doing duty in other premium hatchbacks?

Thanks for the info. Just wondering if you have any more information about the 1.6 petrol engine.

It seems odd that this is a more advanced engine than the one in the Jetta, because one would imagine that VW would have squeezed some more power out of it in the upgrade. The Jetta 1.6 petrol also produces (exactly) 100 bhp.

If its the 1.2 TDI with A/T and without problems like skoda, I shall ensure that I pester my dad enough to buy that. Anyway he likes the VW name!!
Then swap the i10 Asta with him
My work location is rumored to move further away (80+ km daily commute) and then it falls in diesel territory.

it think 1.6 diesel will come to india.(100) bhp top variant. because i saw car and bike show and autocar. tested the 1.2 TSI and the 1.6 diesel. and they both said the diesel is definitely coming to India.

i just hope that they bring in NEWWWWW engines to india. and just replace all the olders engines. no more fuel problems. no more noisy diesels. no more Pumpe Duse
