This thread, with an apparently production-ready Polo was started two years ago!

I'm getting fed up with the wait for this car to come onto the market. What is VW's problem?

1.2 L petrol worst engine in history.

I guess the 1.4 TDi (it's PD) is the only hope till the 1.6 comes.

Nothing to get fed up about, we've all known that it's due in 2010. We're the ones who are impatient

1.4 Tdi..? Well good, otherwise Polo diesel would have been thrashed by Figo's 1.4 Tdci which is another new launch along with Polo and Beat. With 1.4 Tdi, Polo can compete with the likes of Punto( and other 1.3MJD cars), i20 and Figo. More info of 1.4 Tdi can help us understand how it would fare compared with these other proven diesels.

Damn , should have exchanged the vehicles for a TD of the polo.

And why would you make such a sweeping statement kind Sir ? Its been doing its job perfectly here in India and the countless VW group cars sold abroad.

So thats the Fabia specs - same engines.
1.6 would be good to watch out for.

So very true.
We expect a whole lot of features and quality but dont really want to spend the money.
If they were to give a DSG box or a 1.2 TSI, they'd have to price it close to 9 L OTR atleast.
Then, hell would break loose on the VFM & pricing comments.

Just my personal opinion based on test drives my father and I have made.
I dislike the weak lower range of the engine making it very difficult to drive in stop and go city traffic. Besides the engine doesn't feel very refined and it's noisy - one drive in the petrol ritz or even i10 kappa and you'll see how much smoother those engines are.

My worst experience was when my dad tried to drive a fabia (1.2) uphill. This hill was nothing to write home about - just an average hill which all other cars (aygo's with 1L engines etc) could climb easily. In first gear, my dad had the pedal to the metal (no kidding) and yet the rev's were barely half-way and the car was struggling uphill. If we had to for some reason stop on the hill and then resume, I doubt the car would have made it.

Maybe the car was a lemon - maybe not. Either way we weren't impressed with the engine, although the car was nice and solid. My statement wasn't literal as in it is THE worst engine in history - I was just expressing my dislike.

cheers

^^
Most likely case of a lemon Sir (if for no other reason).

Many Fabia 1.2 owners on this forum (& the famed 'Fabia thread') are a testimony of the 1.2 MPI engine/car doing hills and ghats with panache.

Close to 110 Nm of torque at just 3000 rpm is what it gives. Very few petrol hatches come close here.

True, its not as refined (and a little noisy) as the Kappa or the K Series. Damn the missing pot. Sigh.

True, when the polo is released I'll give it a fair test drive.

But my eyes are set on the 1.6

Are the Indian Polos (with the exception of the 3cyl) going to be 8 valve or 16 valve?

Guys, any idea if this 1.6 petrol can match the performance of Palio 1.6 ?

@polo6n -
3cyl = 12 valve; 4cyl = 16 valve.

@rajivn -
How can someone answer this, without having experienced the polo 1.6 ? if someone attempts it would be mere speculation.

OK, I'll be patient.... I doubt I'd be buying anyway, and ought to be seriously saving if I would be!

Based on current information, the only answer is... if its a new engine then it should easily be more powerful and more fuel efficient at the same time. However, if this is the same 1.6 currently doing duty in the Jetta then it will be inferior to the Palio 1.6 (at least in terms of performance).
