Re: Comedy of Errors at Indian Dealerships

This is about an incident that happened to my friend. The "Always On" headlamp rule had just been announced and most of the scooters were already coming with this. My friend was not fully aware of this new rule, and had been to purchase his new scooter.

Friend:Sir, I dont see the headlamp off switch. How do I switch it off.
Sales Rep: It gets automatically switched off when there is too much sunlight outside.
Friend: Oh, cool!

Its only after purchasing the vehicle that my friend realised about this.

Buyer: Swift has 1248cc diesel engine.
Salesman: No sir, it has 1.3L
Buyer:

During test drive.
Buyer: What is this continuous noise?
Salesman: it’s turbo whistle sir.
Buyer looks at tachometer. The needle is at 1250 rpm.
Buyer hears carefully and figures out it is tyre noise.

Salesman: i20 comes with 7 gears.
Buyer: ok(?)
Salesman: 6 forward and one reverse.
Buyer: it comes with four pedals.
Salesman: pause. yes sir

Technically it is not wrong to say that it comes with 7 gears. 6 forward plus and one reverse.

Yes, the top model i20 comes with three wipers, a dozen of lights on body and six wheels.

I actually dislike cars that come with only two wipers. Did it never occur to them that saloon drivers need to be able to see out of the rear window too?

On this, a salesman may say — sir, engage the reverse and see an ultra wide video.

He may suggest an aftermarket software override to see the video at move.
Camera lens will need hydrophobic protectant or a coating.

Re: Comedy of Errors at Indian Dealerships

Here is my experience that I have already shared on the Tata Nexon review thread:

After the delivery, the SA was giving me the customary demo of the car. He was showing me how to fold the rear seat to extend the trunk, and he was folding the back of the seat without folding the base of the seat first - resulting in a partially folded seat without any real use of the space gained.

Me: "Don't we have to fold the base of the seat before folding the back of the seat to get a complete flat surface?"
SA: "No sir, this is how its done."
Me: "Are you sure? I have seen it in other cars."
SA: "Of course, I am sure."

But he checks with another SA on phone, says okay okay to the person on the other side of the phone and proceeded to tell me with a confident smile on his face:

"Sir, since the XZ+ variant comes with 60:40 split seats, so you can fold the seat only 60, it won't really touch 100, it comes only 60% flat".

I folded the seats properly to complete flat by folding the base first and showed him.

Man, this is hilarious. With 160 inch ground clearance, i20 will become a super monster truck.

Re: Comedy of Errors at Indian Dealerships

I had to visit the Maruti stockyard for the PDI of a friend's Brezza. Just outside the closed gate of the yard, on the footpath, was a Nexa stall displaying a Grand Vitara, a Baleno and a Jimmy. No marks for guessing which of the three drew us in!

We walked in to find that there was no SA or even a guard. While the first two were locked, the Jimny wasn't and I sat inside, checking it out. When I slid into the driver's seat, I was surprised to find that the key was left inside the centre console and the start button was glowing. It was an unregistered car, left unsupervised and unprotected. Anybody could have started it and driven away.

My friend had Nexa representative's number and we called him up. He was relieved to realise that we had found the key and were good enough to inform him of the same. For, he had - for the past couple of hours - apparently been moving heaven and earth to locate the missing key!
