In past few years Man in every Gentleman has become more smarter and Maruti can't fool them any more.
I can't see any major changes beside new grill, new alloys and USB. Similar engine has been tuned for emission compliance, which in fact reduced the bhp/litre.
An intelligent man(not the gentleman man) will wait for Linea 1.6 MJD or go with ANHC, instead of going with this car with outdated design.
I think Manza will give us the same feeling - Offroader/Highway/city.

Killer pricing.

Almost a 2 L difference as compared to the City AT
(and almost at par with the i20 AT?).

Edit : Mumbai Ex Sh price is 837093. Still a very good value.

It is not engine tuning Sir. It is moving to relatively newer technology!
Add to the list a new transmission.
And like in an older post, 'its a Maruti' at that
Watch the sales charts.

Puhlease ! Kidding, are you ?
It is a segment lower. Compared with the Dzire. Its 13xx CC.
Manza's GC is 165 mm as compared to 190 for the SX4 !

This is just a marginal price hike for the VVT technology, and still is Rs 2 lakh cheaper than a City.

Hope GTO is busy test riding the new SX4. And come up with an un-biased report.

Iit is definitely going to eat up into the HC's sales because of its price and feature advantage - lets wait for the sales figures to come in the next quarter, will be eager to see !

Not much, I think. The same price-feature advantage was there with old SX4 also, and its sales settled to 1000 - 1200 units per month, where as that of City was around 3000 units.

Maruti needs a sleeker-lighter petrol sedan, or a Diesel SX4 in this segment. Putting aside the Honda badge, people may prefer City just because it is sleeker and lighter, so they may think the mileage will be higher!

3) Oh yes the diesel. But i am sure FIAT and Tata will try their best so Maruti cant license a higher capacity diesel that the 1.3, 75 bhp one for India.

1) The price difference is there so people who are on the VFM package will consider it IMO. Next, this is a major upgrade as far as maruti autoboxes are concerned.

2) It depends upon what parameters you consider. First is that this car is one of the cheapest car to maintain, its very reliable and service center availability is very wide.

SX4 remains the best VFM car. Manza I have doubt on ride and handling + safety ( EuroNCAP rating ? ). Linea does not have good rear seat space. Add to that A.S & S. disadvantage with Tata-Fiat ( Tata men not competent enough for Fiat cars ). G3HC is price way about what it should be, spares are expensive as compared to rivals, GC issues.

Ovreall, SX4 has the best combination of petrol motor ( I rate this motor above what Manza and Linea offers ), space, ride and handling, maintenance, reliability and availability of service centers.

3) To the best of my knowledge, Fiat is delaying tech transfer which is bad.

4) Prices for Pune:

Variant Non Metallic Metallic

MARUTI SX4 VXI (BSIV) 684400.17 684400.17

MARUTI SX4 ZXI AT (BSIV) 814698.56 814698.56

MARUTI SX4 ZXI AT LEATHER (BSIV) 847294.80 847294.80

MARUTI SX4 ZXI MT (BSIV) 751495.53 751495.53

MARUTI SX4 ZXI MT, LEATHER(BSIV) 784091.76 784091.76

5) In UK, SX4 is available with 1560 cc Peugeot mill. I hope Maruti bring it here before Linea 1.6. The 1.6 Peugeot mill can make around 110 bhp and if this format is launched with SX4, all others are going to run for cover.

You dont always want a diesel if you are not clocking more than X miles / day. A petrol does just as good, if not better.
i said most - not all. Gypsies were good - but they aren't selling anymore since there are diesel SUV alternatives. How's Gypsy doing compared to Bolero?

thats a good assumption. The only problem with that is if they are doing all that (city+highway+ offloading) they would be clocking the 'X' miles you mentioned and would prefer diesel advantage. Again - i say most - not all

anyway, we are going off topic. lets get back to the main discussion.

@ Jigbabarai @ relatively newer technology, means to me same engine with some tuning, so it can complies with strict emission norms applicable from 2011. No we don't have any new engine here or any new technology here.K-series, I can say is a new technology.

Manza@ was a joke, actually I am comparing two ugly looking cars (Please no offence, that was my personal view)

Maruti Suzuki launches new SX4 with VVT engine and automatic transmission

New Delhi, October 26, 2009: Maruti Suzuki, the largest car manufacturer in the country, today launched the new SX4 sedan with an engine powered by advanced VVT technology. The company has also introduced a 4-speed automatic transmission variant of the new SX4.

The environment friendly new SX4 is amongst the first A-3 segment sedans to be BSIV compliant in the country. BSIV regulations are scheduled to be introduced in the country in April 2010. The new SX4 comes with a brand-new sporty honeycomb grille and 10-spoke 16 inch alloy wheels and dual tones interiors and plush upholstery.

Announcing the new SX4, Mr. Mayank Pareek, Executive Officer (Marketing & Sales) said, “The new SX4 is set to raise its own benchmark in luxury segment, even further. The car’s distinctive stance and style profile is characteristic of today’s modern sedans. With a VVT engine, it is all set to send the adrenalin pumping while caring for the environment. The 4-speed automatic transmission addresses the needs of today’s cosmopolitan customers for convenience in the stop-start city traffic conditions. The new SX4 with a range of contemporary features is sure to win many a hearts.”

The VVT or Variable Valve Timing allows the timing of the intake valve to be changed while the engine is in operation, thereby ensuring that there is never a shortage or wastage of power. This leads to improved engine efficiency, optimized fuel consumption and lesser carbon emissions. With the advanced VVT technology, the car starts, accelerates and climbs steep slopes better. In essence, the technology is an intelligent system leading to a a smoother, more luxurious drive and better mileage.

With a more efficient engine, the new SX4 has ARAI certified mileage of 15.6 km per litre of petrol. The superior technology engine helps the SX4’s four-valve, 1.6 litre engine produce a maximum power of 104.68ps @5600 rpm. The engine also has a high torque of 145Nm @4100 rpm.

Automatic transmission
The 4-speed automatic transmission makes the city drive much easier. A slick shift allows easy down-shift and effortless up-shift to ensure a smooth and sporty drive. The instrument cluster incorporates an electronic display to highlight the engaged gear.

A cluster of computer controlled sensors constantly manage the throttle input and optimize the engine response accordingly, thus requiring no changing of gears. The overdrive mode in the Automatic Transmission provides additional power on the tap, whenever needed.

When the SX4 sedan was launched in May 2007, Maruti Suzuki was the first automobile company to introduce class leading premium features such as air-bags, steering-mounted audio controls, auto climate control, glass antennae and many others in an A3 segment car for customer benefit. The tradition continues in the new SX4 with the company bringing in advanced VVT technology, which has so far been used only in the luxury SUV, Suzuki Grand Vitara.

The interiors have been stylized in new two-tone beige colours to define calmness and luxury within the vehicle. The steering mounted controls are illuminated for easier usage at night, while there is a new provision of USB connectivity on the dashboard.

In addition auto climate control system, and windshield antenna, the new SX4 sedan also offers illuminated key insert and variable instrument illumination.

The new SX4 is available in 2 transmission – Manual and Automatic. While Manual Transmission has two variants VXi and ZXi, the Automatic Transmission is available in ZXi variant with optional leather upholstery. The ZXi variant also comes with safety features like ABS, EDB, Dual SRS airbags.

The SX4 sedan is the tallest, widest car in its class. It also has the largest fuel tank capacity at 50 litres. It comes with the widest tyres and a boot space of 505 liters. The ground clearance of the new SX4 sedan is 190mm, the highest in the A3 segment.

SX4 automatic sensitively priced

SX4 Automatic is very sensitively priced. Guys, do see the value for money. Especially when competitors are priced greedily. Is there any new colours launched? SX4 customers can throw some light comparing their brochures with these spec

1) K series is right now available only in 1242cc max. The higher capacity K series are expected to debut in Next generation Swift.

2) NO. K series is a new engine series from Suzuki. Original Zen had G10, Esteem G13 ( and now even Swift ), Baleno had G16.

SX4 comes with M16, an M series motor. Other engine of M series are M15 ( some putting out 110 bhp in Ignis ) M13 and M18.

VVT is Variable Valve Technology. Honda calls it VTEC, Toyota calls its CVVT,now valvematic, etc. All these technologies function in a different way, but their main aim is similar. Different manufacturers have different names for it.
