Mumbai, May 18, 2010 – Today Volkswagen released the first sketch of its new Sedan that is slated to hit the Indian roads later this year.

It has been specifically designed for India and will be manufactured in Volkswagen’s state of the art plant at Chakan, Pune.

It will no doubt carry the Volkswagen DNA of German Engineering which is innovative technology, safety, stability sturdiness and tailored to the requirements of the Indian consumer.

Its authentic and elegant design coupled with its innovative features and driving dynamics will set benchmarks in its class and will act as a key brand pillar for Volkswagen to stimulate its growth in the country

This new Sedan will be in addition to Volkswagen’s already existing product line which includes the Passat, Jetta, Touareg, New Beetle, Phaeton and the very recently and successfully launched New Polo.

Looks real good on sketch here. But what happens to the rumored 'Vento' then? Is this going to placed in a class above the 'Vento'?

This is the Vento.Looks nice and proportionate in the sketch,but goes to be seen how it looks with smaller,less exaggerated wheels/tires in the real world!

OT: I was reading through articles about Vento and stumbled across this link.

The article title says "Volkswagen uncover sketch of its new Sedan Mercedes ‘Vento’". Not just the title, the whole article calls it Mercedes Vento. Where did merc come into picture?

Crazy idea:

Imagine if along with the vento, VW launch a two-door coupe based on it's design, completely kitted out with sunroof etc. and the laura's 1.8 TSi engine for under 13-14 big ones! Would be pretty sweet IMO!

The front grill is disappointing though (from what I saw in Autocar scoop & the sketch)...It plainly resembles VW Polo hatchback front. If this is indeed the case, we have yet another "Swift Dzire"...:(

Just saw this news on INDIAN autos blog dot COM, forgive me if this is old news already.

Volkswagen has initiated trial production of the Polo sedan in Chakan. As per a report on Autocar India, the Polo sedan will be christened Vento and will be priced close to the Honda City.
The Polo sedan will merely not be a Polo with a boot. It will also have a slightly longer wheelbase with increased equipment. The vehicle will have split seats made out of higher quality cushion. Gadgets from the Jetta could appear on the Polo sedan, which will also be manufactured in places like Russia.
The VW Vento, according to the same report will come with two engine options – a petrol and a diesel. Both engines displace 1.6 litres and both produce 105bhp. However, the diesel makes 255Nm of torque while the petrol can only manage 158Nm.
When Indian Autos Blog contacted the company’s spokesperson Kurt Rippholz regarding this development, this is what he said -
We started trial production (of the Polo sedan) some weeks ago and series production (mass production) will begin in 3,4,5 or 6 (3 to 6) months time.
Will the Polo sedan manage to send the extremely popular Honda City running for cover when it comes out in the second half of 2010?

Both 1.6 petrol and diesel make the same power?Thats a bit strange.That must require some serious detuning.

I don't think we should compare it to swift v/s dzire as the car looks extremely balanced (as mentioned by someone in the thread) and it looks more like the car wasn't made out of Polo in the first place. No offense to Dzire owners but Dzire just looks like a pregnant swift IMO. Indigo & Dzire are probably the worst hatchback to sedan makeovers (again I'm sorry but this is just my opinion so Indigo/Dzire owners please don't mind).

+1 to that. This one definitely looks very well proportioned. Not at all a patch job.

Polo is a benchmark in quality, I hope VW carries it forward with Vento. This will help VW in the long run, in a market like India, which is increasingly aiming high.
