Ramping up capacities perhaps?

From what I saw in the live streaming link & from what I've read about the Etios, I think the Vento is clearly a cut above.

The launch was impressive, but seems a bit premature since VW has not decided to reveal the price and the actual launch dates.

Thats what the company says, 10000 backlog on the Polo, current capacity 4000 units / month.

No dates announced for the actual launch / bookings and the price. More likely between SX4, Linea & ANHC.

Going by the specs and the looks it would be worth a wait till the end of the year, but it still sucks having to wait.

You are right it is indeed the wheelbase.

Maruti can learn a lesson or two on how to make a proportionate sedan from a hatch platform.
You think Maruti (or Suzuki) does not know how to create one? They did exactly what they wanted and customers needed (for the price) which is validated by the numbers.

On the live stream-link, I heard it has 4000 units have been delivered so far and not as current capacity is 4000 units / month

+1 to what holysmoke is mentioning. The 96 mm must be the increase in wheelbase. The 96 mm in overall lenght wont be even noticeable.

The car would in the range of 4.4 to 4.5 m, lets wait till the official spec sheet is out

I saw the live video briefly but did not hear anything about 17inch rims and ability to adjust front passenger seat from the rear, as mentioned in this thread.
Can someone confirm these features?

Has pre-booking started for the AT? I think I'm pretty convinced.

Key takeaways from the launch

1. The car is 414 mm longer than the Polo , and a few mm taller as well
2. It has a 96 mm longer wheel base than the polo
3. It will be offered in Highline and Trendline variants only
4. It will launched anytime between Oct and Dec 2010 (Q4 2010)
5. Features: ABS, Front Airbags, Multi Information Display, Rear AC vents, Provision to adjust front passenger seat from the rear, Anti-theft, 15 Inch alloys, enough headroom for 6 footers on the rear. Overall Will contain more features than all the other cars in competition (benchmarked to Linea i guess)

???????????? > ????? Polo ????? > ?????? > ??????????? ??????

6. Engines:
- Petrol: 1.6 L 105 Bhp 153 nm Torque (5 speed manual / 6 speed auto gearbox)
- Diesel: 1.6 L 105 Bhp ??? Torque (5 speed manual gearbox

7. Other Tech Specs (In Russian) : http://www.volkswagen.ru/media/count...sedan_tech.pdf

8. Availability: Currently the plant is operating at 45% capacity i.e. 4000 Cars per month against a rated capacity of 9000 Cars a month. IF demand crosses those numbers then there will be waiting period. They already have a backlog of 10,000 Polos

9. Pricing: Said to be competitive with other cars in the market. Looks like the key target competitors will be the ANHC, Linea, Verna, Fiesta and SX4.

Diffsoft is correct. Mr Garg stated that 4,000 units have been delivered over a 3 month period & they were ramping up the capacities to increase deliveries.....

I didn't hear anything about the 17 inch rims either but yes, I did see Mr Garg sit in the rear seat & demonstrate how the front seat could be pushed forward from the rear

The 17 inch wheel seems to be a typo in odmag's twitter stream.

Thanks Rangaraj

And, as opined by Holysmoke & others, it is indeed the wheelbase that is 96mm more than the Polo - 2582mm in the link provided by Rangaraj as against 2486mm of the Polo from the VW India website.

So that's one controversy put to rest

The white color Vento looks absolutely stunning. Nice marketing, hope they ramp up the production. It's sure gonna be a crowd puller.
