Quote:
Mumbai, May 18, 2010 – Today Volkswagen released the first sketch of its new Sedan that is slated to hit the Indian roads later this year.

It has been specifically designed for India and will be manufactured in Volkswagen’s state of the art plant at Chakan, Pune.

It will no doubt carry the Volkswagen DNA of German Engineering which is innovative technology, safety, stability sturdiness and tailored to the requirements of the Indian consumer.

Its authentic and elegant design coupled with its innovative features and driving dynamics will set benchmarks in its class and will act as a key brand pillar for Volkswagen to stimulate its growth in the country

This new Sedan will be in addition to Volkswagen’s already existing product line which includes the Passat, Jetta, Touareg, New Beetle, Phaeton and the very recently and successfully launched New Polo.

VW polo looks cools like a sedan from scratch not like dzire/Indigo. It's like Linea from punto.
so what will be the price starting at 5.5 lakh?

Hi Sid,

When i saw the topic of VW Polo Sedan and "Sid" as the author, i was very excited and was sure that it would be another scoop from the scoop master. But, then i found the pictures taken from Secretnewcars.com

The car looks good (whatever can be seen from the heavy camouflage), but any news on it coming to India soon?

If the polo sedan indeed comes to India shorn with the TSI engines as is rumoured, my guess is their pricing will be very close to the Honda City price points. If the car is well kitted out, that may not be unreasonable either.

Reminds me of the old Jetta in proportions.

Also I feel that its about the size of Verna but a little more wider.

1) Nice find. The car is relatively well proportioned as compared to other car we have in India.

2) Again what powertrains they are planning to dish out ? From what VW has currently in India, they are years behind others. Even Jetta has a basic 1.6 that is just not upto the mark.
This is really irritating from Europeans side. And even if they give good engines, some or other problem crops up.

3) The biggest question, where will they place ? Polo lets say will be from 5-7 lakh. 7-9 they have Fabia. 9-12 lakh they have Octy and above that they have Laura, Jetta, Passat superb.

Polo will fight Swift/i20. Fabia competes with Jazz.

Where will this car go ? My guess is that this car will replace Octavia. Already some news is going on that Octy will be replaced and the dates are near to the launch of this Polo sedan.

If my guess comes out to be correct, then its going to be a big mistake from VW side. City is quite strong brand to take a fight and Corolla diesel news is doing rounds.

I read the same thing in Autocar India. Its highly possible that this could be the new Octavia.

Although camouflaged picture does not reveal much, the car looks cool.
It will be great to see this great car in Sedan Avatar.
Indian consumer is surely going to get a lot more choice; and hopefully much better quality and better pricing with increasing competititon and localisation.

VW Jetta, Passat and now Polo. Sure that VW is taking the buisiness serious and we are going to reap the benefits.
