Fiat Linea T-Jet in January 2010!

Note from Mod : Please continue the discussion on GTO's Test Thread

Fiat inside sources have revealed that the Fiat Linea will NOT be coming with the 1.6 Diesel :-( (as posted in the other thread) as of now but with the powerful 118bhp T-JET avatar petrol engine .

Fiat has officially shelved the 1.6 Multijet engine until December 2010/ January 2011 because, the gearbox mated with that engine is an outdated GM sourced one. Fiat is in the process of designing a new swanky gearbox in India itself for that particular engine. There is a high possibility that the engine could also come with the famous Fiat Dualogic Gear system with automatic transmission at the time of its Multijet launch.

Fiat is also considering the possibility of making it 85% ethanol ready with the 1.9 130bhp Flexfuel engine although it is highly unlikely, considering that the Indian market is not prepared for fuel alternatives at the moment.

Here are the details of the Indian car to be released in Jan 2010 (T-JET)

[b]Type: Petrol (l4) 1.4L 16V Turbo JET (T-JET)
Displacement: 1368cc
Max. Power: 119.2bhp@5000rpm (Actual: 117.8bhp)

Fuel Injection: Timed, Sequential Electronic Multi-Point Fuel Injection
Top Speed: 202 kmph (Actual: 195 kmph)
0 - 100 kmph: 9.2sec

Feature upgrades:

1) Hill Holder (HBA)
2) Auto Windshield Wipers
3) Auto Headlamps
4) Reverse Parking Sensors
5) More Colour Options: Cool Jazz Blue, Indie Ivory, Exotica Yellow
6) Blue and Me SatNav could possibly arrive.

2) Dual Parabola Headlamps with Rear and Front Fog Lamps.
3) High Mounted Stop Lamp

16) 500l boot space
17) Airbags (2)
18) Alloy Wheels and Chrome Inserts
19) Body Coloured Bumpers and Mirrors
20) Internally Controlled External Mirrors.

For more details visit Linea ::

Mods, please close the older thread as that involves the 1.6 Diesel which will not be launched soon.

Expected Price for Linea T-JET: 8.97 - 9.31 lakhs on road
Expected Price for Linea 1.6 MultiJet: 9.8 - 10.23 lakhs on road (Slightly below D Segment, equal to Honda City auto)

now this is great.

just one question.

"Fuel Injection: Timed, Sequential Electronic Multi-Point Fuel Injection"

i thought T-jet was direct fuel injection system, but the above line does not suggest so?

You are right, it is direct, the above just indicates the way in which the fuel is injected and at a particular frequency- this is similar to your Variable Valve Timing Engine, except, this is with respect to Injection of Fuel.

Even I wish I should have waited, considering we both bought the 1.4 L FIRE Petrol Linea. But hey, on the bright side, we were one of the proud exclusive owners of the Linea in India, as we purchased it when it has just released, giving a chance to everyone to envy such a beautiful car before they could get their hands on it! We are part of the first few thousand people who have started trusting FIAT and we should feel proud of it. Maybe we would get a chance to buy the new age MultAir T-JET in 2013-2014 when the Linea will be given fresh Fiat Upgrades! By then, Fiat should have garnered enough strength and market share.

This new car is sure to wipeout the whole range of sedans with its EVP status and awesome performance!!!

Watch Out Honda City the Linea's coming to get you- with pure 120bhp REVENGE!

I hope that this doesn't start another Honda vs Fiat argument.

but Fantastic news! The TJET will make the linea one heck of a drive.

This is real good. One thing and only one thing to look in the FIAT TJet is low end torque(~ 200nm @2500 rpm).

It will be comparable to a one size smaller diesel(in low end torque). Thanks to its low end torque it will sport extreme city mileages too. I can surely say we can see 11-14 kmpl(depending on the city) 10 is too low an estimate.

TJet basically has a low spool turbo (A turbo that reaches its peak spools at low RPMs), which start its spool < 2k around RPM. This means you can enjoy extreme torque right from idle and normal driving conditions(giving it ease of driving of a diesel and fun of a petrol). The down side is that at high RPM the turbo will run at a lower PSI rating than at low RPM. This will make the engine feel non liner in power deliver. But for all practical aspects this is superb engine.

Just for kicks, I feel Fiat will make this thing a twin turbo with the second turbo running on the exit pressure of the first one to increase power high end power too.

The features look lucrative too.

Hill Holder will be my best voted feature on this car.

Wish they added a Auto box too, considering that it is a something people look for now. (The SX4 AT is a talked about thing in my family).

The T-JET will not be coming to the Punto at the moment because Fiat is under the impression that the Punto is adequately powered. However, don't lose hopes we might see it in 2011 along with the 1.6 Multijet Linea!

People who just bought petrol Linea might go in depression now!
