New Delhi, Aug. 1 (PTI): Fiat India today said its manufacturing operations at Kurla were severely affected due to the inclement weather conditions and floods in Maharashtra.

"Kurla was the area most badly affected by the Mumbai floods. The Fiat plant being in Kurla, was affected to a major extent in the manufacturing area, but the assessment of damages is still under way," the company said in a statement here.

It said it was working towards restoring operations "that largely depend on the availability of electricity in the region."

Fiat said it had also made efforts to supply spare parts to its affected customers on time.

In the light of the damages Fiat cars would have gone through due to the unforeseen torrential rains in Mumbai, the company said it has set up special commercial communications centres for dealers and customers to avail themselves of spare parts and cars on time.

"The Mumbai monsoons have been an unfortunate calamity for all of us. To ensure we make life easier for all Fiat customers, we have set up a system wherein each of our dealers can contact us to register their requests and place orders for spares etc. so that necessary action can be taken on time," company Managing Director Paolo Castagna, said.

"Starting from Monday, we are restoring the shipment of spare parts, cleaning up the backlog of request of the last days," the company said.

Today in "Headlines today" Tv channel, FIAT has advertised some contact numbers in Mumbai..for their customers to repair FIAT cars that have been damaged by floods.

Nice. Pro-activeness pays. Always.

since my car got totalled - now lying at anuroop - lets hope fiat can also reduce prices of spares which are not covered by insurance - a la hyundai and tata.

three cheers for these 2 companies - good to know they have a heart - also good for their brand image.

though i wonder if fiat is up to it - now with the bad luck of their plant at kurla - when it rains...it pours

Fiat has set up special commercial communications centres for dealers and customers to avail of spare parts and cars on time.

There are four major Fiat dealers and each of them received about 70 complaints daily from customers.

Paolo Castagna, managing director, Fiat India, said, “We have set up a system wherein each of our dealers can contact us to register their requests and place orders for spares so that necessary action can be taken on time.”

Fiat’s Kurla plant has been affected by the flood and non-availability of power.

“We are confident that the models at the depots and at our dealerships are sufficient to meet the requests from our customers for the future weeks. Starting from Monday we are restoring the shipment of spare parts, cleaning up the backlog of request of the last days,” said Castagna.
