Found an interesting article on the Future innovations in car safety on CNN Money website

Here is the list the article talks about:

1. Collision warning and mitigation
2. Lane departure warning
3. Blind-spot warning
4. Rear- and side-view cameras
5. Driver alertness monitoring

I think except 1 and 2 can never be implemented in India because of stop and go traffic and lack of lane discipline. 5 should be made mandatory for Cab drivers in India.

I think 1 and 2 are present in the BMW 7 series and S class. But 4th option is an very good option :)

blind spot warning also exists in many cars.

In Indian conditions 1 and 2 would probably result in sever sensory overload and it would probably fry itself after a few minutes on our roads. lol:

3. Blind-spot warning
I read an article on how to avoid blind spots. The technique simply involves repositioning of the side view mirrors such that only the rear most part of either side is visible to their respective SVMs. I tried this and am convinced that this is a wonderful method to avoid blind spots.

Practically, I am able to see a vehicle right from the moment it is behind me on the same lane till such time he switches lane and overtakes me. Just as the overtaking vehicle starts to disappear from the SVM on the driver's side, you can see the actual vehicle pass by. In short, there is never a moment you miss seeing the vehicle.
