Then don't grumble about the space in the rear: it's a Golf with reduced headroom!

Another must for me is Rear Wash and Wipe.

Errr... Window... Car window, I mean... I already have a spray in the toilet

Can't decide whether or not I am desperate about Climate control: that is going to be part of my Micra/Polo choice.

Half-decent ICE. half-decent will do. This is something I am incapable of deciding on afterwards, hence my current car has none after three years.
HaHa! You're taking the mickey outta me, right? Rear wipe! The images that are conjured!

ICE is good with Sathya at EVO. Almost worth the drive to Speedbreaker City for the refit. He tells me about the trouble he had when he first put himself at the tender mercies of "installers"! We guys have it so good now with enthusiasts like him manning the show. Good advice and non-budget breaking rigs can finally be accessed!

About the car choice...A friend is a whiz with network troublehshooting and his job takes him around the city all day. So basically, a lifetime's car running compressed into 5 years. Moved from m800 upwards and finally ended up with a TATAMobile twincab config. Best solution to unruly autos that scratched his paintwork, uncooperative insurance firms not ponying up the moolah and dodgy white board yellow board rule interpretation by cops.

Seriously, Proton, I hate not having rear wash/wipe --- just that I realised what I was saying as I typed it. Absolutely nothing else intended

It always annoyed me that my Rover 620, in London, didn't have --- because, tradition is that it is a hatchback thing, not a saloon thing. Here its just a penny-pinching thing!

Rear parcel shelf.

That's another penny-pinching thing. I never heard of a car without one before coming here!

1.ABS
2.airbag(optional atleast)

Actually of writing better engine, but more powerful cars are about how much you can spend. And if you can spend more you can get a comparatively more powerful car. So, that does not fit in "must have feature". Moreover engine is not a "feature" in a car, it is a large part of the car itself.

If wishes were horses...

I wish for the following features in my next car:

1. Intelligent and Intuitive Climate Control -
As soon as I get into the car, it should start the AC and set it to my preferred temperature at 23 deg C.

2. Automatic Horn
- As soon as there is a cow, buffalo, dog, truck, pedestrian or any other vehicle blocking my way, the horn should honk automatically.

3. Auto-Drive - As soon as I get into my car, I should only need to tell it my destination, and it should drive itself there; unless I want to switch off the Auto-drive and want to drive it myself.

4. Internet Connectivity Entertainment System - The ICE should be able to download the latest numbers, and movies from the internet and store them for future listening and viewing. For the rear seat passengers, it should automatically download the day's newspaper and keep it ready on the rear headrest display.

5. Auto Maintainence - It should remind me of service intervals and the jobs needed at the next service. If there is something wrong with the car, it should automatically tell me on the display, and if necessary, automatically book an appointment with the authorized dealer on the internet.

Oh well....I can dream of many more such features, but can anyone tell me how long will I have to wait for my next car?

If you get a car like that on the road, I promise will buy a clapped out heap of jump and ram it on to yours hoping to wreck your car (not you of course)!

I hate those darn horns in India.

Your Right Variant and Features for a Hatch

These days there are basically 3 variants base, mid, high (Lxi,Vxi,Zxi).

It is seen most people prefer the mid version. The reason is simple it offers maximum value. It has almost everything you want but still misses the most essential items like ABS and airbags. Honda seems to have realized it and have started incorporating these features in all the variants. But doesnt seem to work out for the hatch.

The top end gives you everything. But is it worth the premium it asks for? Well for someone to whom safety is first there is no other option. Maruti has added an intermediate version Vxi with ABS. Not sure how many of these actually sell but the upgrade over Vxi is highly recommended. However the highest variant is still not perfect. Specially if you have plans for modification of ICE or tyres/alloys.

Base versions is also not a bad idea since money saved can be used for up-gradation to the next segment. Or to diesel. But this versions seriously lacks what you need.
http://www.team-bhp.com/forum/indian...t-lower-3.html

Now the question is what features exactly do you want in your car.

What I need-
1) All power windows
2) Keyless Entry
3) ICE (Head unit) with USB
4) Airbags
5) ABS
6) Driver seat height adj
7) Steering tilt and telescopic

What I dont need-
1) Speakers
2) Foglamps
3) ACC
4) Alloys
5) Rear wash wipers
6) Parking sensors
7) Steering mounted Audio controls
8) Split rear seats
8) Body coloured mirrors (Maximum replacements)

Note for Mods: Please merge or move this thread if necessary.

Here's mine:

What I need:
1) ABS, EBD and BA
2) 15" wheels
3) Reasonably wide tyres
4) Fog Lamps
5) Central Locking
6) Audio preparation
7) Electric mirrors (hate stretching across to adjust/fold the LHS mirror)
8) Front power windows
9) Height adjustable driver seat and tilt and telescopic steering
10) Cubbyholes

What can be done without
1) Beige/ Dual-tone interiors (Black's good)
2) OEM head unit and speakers
3) OEM alloy wheels
4) Keyless entry
5) Rear power windows
6) Body colored mirrors and handles
7) Chrome garnishes
8) ACC
9) Park assist
10) Split folding seats

It'd be nice to have
1) Rear defoggers, and wash and wipe
2) Lumbar support (asking for too much?)

Not many OEMs provides good quality Rubber. They only care about minimum rolling resistance to improve ARAI FE with blithe disregard for handling. Wider tyres is something to dream about. Only Punto has it. In the Sedan segment it is T-Jet and SX4 Zxi. So anyway I would not want alloys/wider tyres as I am better off upgrading myself. But if they can provide good wide tyres on 15/16". I will take it.

My List

These many features would probably only come in a high end (Zxi, Asta, Highline, etc.)

What I Need

1) All Power Windows and Central Locking
2) ABS
3) Air Bags (front 2 minimum)
4) Electrically Adjustable ORVM's
5) As many adjustments to drivers seat as possible (height, lumbar support, everything)
6) Tilt and Telescopic Steering
7) Fog Lamps
8) Split Folding Rear Seats
9) Central Arm-Rest
10) Anti-Glare Mirrors

What I'd Wan't

1) Full Auto up-down windows (window goes all the way without button being held)
2) Electrically Foldable ORVM's
3) Fully Automatic Climate Control
4) Rear Wiper
5) Keyless Entry and Remote Boot Release
6) Electric Boot Release
7) Side and Curtain Airbags
8) Alloy Wheels and Wide Tyres (with option to return OEM tyres and alloys at cost and install own preferences)
9) Electric Sunroof and Moonroof
10) Steering Mounted Audio Controls
11) Parking Sensors
12) Option for Black Interiors (not a fan of beige)
13) Auto-On Headlights and Wipers with sensors (with the amount of features we're getting in hatches these days I have no doubt, given 5 years or so, these will also make their way into Hatchbacks)

What I Specifically do NOT want
1) OEM Sound System and Speakers. I'd always remove them and put in my own system and speakers, so I feel when I buy high end models I'm paying for a Sound System I'm going to throw out later.
