Re: The Must Have Features in Your Next Car

I want my next car (an SUV for sure) to have rear washer/wiper and rear defogger (I've found them extremely useful during long drives). Perhaps ABS and airbags too.

Thinking about it, my Palio SDX came with no music system (which was good, because most small cars' ICE has no USB support and I can't live without USB!). The only feature I miss is ABS. Never mind the interiors :-D.

Re: The Must Have Features in Your Next Car

With 200bhp, who cares about turbo, let alone turbo lag?

I really wish my car had a proper & safe central Locking system. My current possession, VW Vento has probably one of the most unsafe Locking solution (Central / not) in the Indian Auto market. It nearly killed a couple of my beloved ones while speeding on the highway!

Re: The Must Have Features in Your Next Car

My next car (actually first, if u don't count my dad's cars ) should contain:
ABS (most definitely)
A very drivable yet powerful diesel engine
Entertaining handling
Nice set of alloys and tyres and
A thundering Music system

OMG , mind elaborating on the last sentence of your post.

What did you mean by unsafe locking solution?

Re: The Must Have Features in Your Next Car

Decent road clearance.

Something that looks designed for a race track (especially those ridiculous low fronts that have become compulsory, even on a hatch back) is just not practical on real roads, especially Chennai real roads.

Decades ago, my parents used to drive on rough farm tracks that were two ruts with a great hump in the middle. In "ordinary" saloon cars. Later, I had a stop-at-nothing-driver girlfriend (one of my teachers ) to whom those tracks were inviting. I don't have numbers, but would my Swift go where her Mini did?

Now that I am used to cruise control, I cannot live without it..
Its a boon for those long highway travels.

Afterthought: I bet somebody on T-BHP knows what the ground clearance of a Mini, forty years ago, would have been.

That's the difference between real car enthusiasts and casual members like me <Blush> !

Re: The Must Have Features in Your Next Car

you know - if you viewed yesterday's top gear where they drove through botswana and the kalahari etc in those beat up 3 old vehicles (an old merc, an ancient opel kadett and a busted Lancia + the extra punishment station beetle), you will probably, like me, come around to the opinion that if pushed and if required, most cars will go practically anywhere. Its just a question of whether you really want to go there or not.

its true that when I was a kid my dad's old ambys and fiats used to go pretty much anywhere at all in the hills. it was only in cases of extreme rain, slush and mud and muck that we used the jeep as a family.

Most cars of the segment these days have either a manual lock besides the central lock OR have a 2 stage central lock. In my Vento, even if the central lock is applied, the front-side passenger can end up accidentally pull the lever & open the door in one go. In Vento, adding the manual lock doesnt seem feasible; but a 2 stage action (first pull deactivates the lock for that door & the second pull opens it) should suffice, much like in the Jetta, Passat & also the segment competitions.

Wishlist For Model Variants

Hi all!

Thought i would start a thread where we can discuss requirements of variants, of cars already in India or due for launch, that would suit our needs. Hopefully it would be monitored by the manufacturers and possibly our wishes could come true.

Format would be like this:

Manufacturer name & existing model name
Variant required
Whether such variant exists in other markets & details
Brief write up on why you need the variant.

Sridhar V
====================================
So here goes with my first variant:

Existing - Suzuki SX4
Variant requred - Hatch with 2L engine, 4x4 transmission & CVT gearbox.
Variant exists in USA as a LHD model. Do not forsee any major issue in creating a RHD version. Also the existing SX4 assembly line in Manesar could be used for production. Most of the body stampings would be common. Some panels may need to be imported , as also engine & transmission.

It would be a HOT Hatch with a 4x4 mini SUV thrown in. Use it everywhere in the city & escape to the wild outdoors when the city gets to you! (ok. ok. atleast some rough mountain roads) Yaaa!
