If a new car with a diesel sells as much as Civic, how can it be a success?

Clearly GM must have made special effort to price the LS M/T version below the psychological 10lakhs mark.

Had GM offered Cruze LS A/T at 9.99lakhs ex-show room price it would have set a new trend.

GM Cruze costs KD 5000/- for 1.8ltr petro engined LTZ with A/T in Kuwait which roughly translates Rs.8 lakhs given high profit margins ranging 15-25% for the local dealers in Kuwait.

500 odd cars is too little for second month from its launch. GM has priced it high and i see it has missed the opportunity to set Cruze sales charts burning with high volume monthly sales.

Indian buyers are getting aware and should shun profiteeringly priced products irrespective of manufacturers/Brands.

the car has certainly done well

considering the segment it caters is concerned more about brand than being diesel/petrol specific, cause this car is not exactly a vfm segment cars however they are expected o be at par with the competition

not all peolpe are obsessed with diesel as you are

so a person paying upwards 12 lakhs may or maynot be concerned about fuel
i own a sonata petrol also an accent the running not is not as high as the capital price difference between the cars
i was more concerned about value so i didnt mind buying a hyundai
but there are others who would only consider brands like skoda, toyota or honda in this segment
VW too but unfortunately the car isnt as impressive as its brand
we've already discussed this lets not drag it further

just take a look at sales charts, you will see GM is not selling at par in any segment!! even spark
this shows VFM is not always important

there are so many cars which offer value with respect to it competition but fail
example (sonata transform, optra, tucson, vitara, elantra) people have always chosen honda and toyota overthese
people have paid much high premium to buy CRV instead of better priced suv's in the same segment like vitara or tucson

in fact you will sell a high preference for honda city instead of optra which is of a higher segemt even when optra comes with diesel and offers cars at a bargain still people prefer honda

considering all this the fact that cruze is selling as much as civic or toyota or even close is certainly an achievement to GM cause the GM DAEWOO cars in india dont command a premium compared to skoda, toyota or honda

if you see the sales chart my friend you will see this is the only segment that GM can brag about (not exactly brag )rest all segments GM is hardy noticible

I understand that typically all Maruti models stand now to be facelifted every 3 years. The new swift is also under development, though it could be well into 2011 for its entry. Where are scoops when you need them?!

thank you for your effort in posting the price of each car available there
that was very informative
since all the cars are priced atleast twice as much in india
why do you believe cruze is over priced?

your saying cruze is is avilable for 9.9 there so 10-12 here is not very bad
compared to corolla for upwards of 14 in india for a car priced at 8 (correct me if i am wrong,my neighbour who has bought this car told me he got it for 15.5 -almost 16 in bangalore)

infact only after reading this post it seems cruze is the most well priced car in the segment

infact i now find it diffcult to understand why corolla and civic are so expensive

looks like only korean cars are worth buying in india (hyundai,GM DAEWOO)

camry and innova hardly have any price difference there , looks like innova too is a good buy in india

rest all are CBU's so even if we buy them at high price its only the duty

Actually Innova and cruze are relatively reasonably priced cars but both are currently available only in M/T boxes.

GM india doesnot suffer from Premium brand syndrome like Honda or Toyota.
Cruze would have brought volumes if GM played a true international pricing there. The news of Cruze A/t launch in Jan 10 is encouraging. However if GM prices A/T with additional 50K that will be better.

Less premium well known brands in India like Ford, GM,, and best Quality Tata products such as much awaited Tata's Xover can check the steep Brand premium demanded by Honda and Toyota sooner.

Mitsubishi with HM and HM 's pricing are nothing but profiteering since Amby-Rajdoot days.

My worry is Toyotoa, Hyundai, Honda are charging premium due to a) non availability of Indian competitive product. b) bad Indian govt policies.

Hyundai's i10, i20 are a clear loot. letting scrap model as Accent executive?? and range of Maruti suzuki scrap models sold are due to bad govt policies. and poor monitory Indian regulations.
