They've done it again for the Polo. This location is the Linking Rd / Sv Rd / Turner Rd junction at Bandra.

Times of India? Nope, VW of India. EDIT: Vibrating ad on 11 Sept 2012 (Pg 26)-photo0587.jpg

Sure can't miss that board, can we?! VW sure has some marketing budget...easily dwarfs that of any other player in the last 12 months.

Agree, but the TV ads to promote Polo has been nothing but bland and boring.

Considering the volume of cars they sell and the kind of products they sell I wonder if spending so much is justified? Or is it one of those VW doings just to boost their ego?

Nice - though i wish they had used the cluster a little more interestingly.

Remember those internet ads (was it MS, Amazon, ?) where there would be a top banner and a side banner on a site, and they would interact with each other. That was out of the box. This could have been used in some interesting way as well i'm sure...

PS - The board near Atria atleast has some life in it -- its a VW logo and a little beetle drives along the lines of the VW. Seem to rememeber seeing it on the forum as well.

@ Rehaan - They'd used this spot really well for the Beetle ads, showing a different curve of the car in every banner and it all adds up to a Beetle when looked at from a distance. "Curves are back". I wish I had clicked a photograph.

VW has big plans - in the longer term - for India. This is just the start. Don't forget. They also bought 20% of Suzuki, specifically keeping Maruti's Indian dominance in mind.

What you see in the opening post of this thread is just a brand building exercise.

The effect of advertising :

I'm at a small roadside shop in Goa, the kind which sells poor quality Rs 100/- t-shirts with pictures of goblins, che guevara, the token marijuana leaf, and other happyhippy designs.
The guy who ows the shop makes most of the embrodered patterns on T-shirts himself.

Here's what he had comming up next :

VW isn't doing it without any reason. They want to become the biggest manufactuers of passenger cars by 2018 and they mean business. When the first wave of VW ads hit me, the only thing that came to my mind was Blitzkrieg.

All European and American OEMs have woken up to the fact that the economic center of gravity is shifting to the East and it is only VW (and GM to an extent) who are proactively reacting to it.

India is a part of this equation, sure, but as a market of people parting with their money. If you want to talk dominance, see what they are doing and investing in China. 9 Factories aiming to double output to 3 million in the next two years. Seven new or locally produced models to be launched this year.

We have one factory making ONE (half-baked) model.

Volkswagen to open another plant in China, aims to double output to 3 million cars by 2013
