Why a vibrating device in the newspaper? more than 'Shiver of excitememt', I think it is a reminder by VW on how customers should get used to vibrations with their 3-cylinder, noisy diesel engines.
Same here, the newspaper vendor had already removed the device from my newspaper, lest either of my parents would have startled & waited for me to return home after jogging. But, anyway their 4-page advertisement was elaborate & informative about how they make their cars .

Good innovative advertising.
Also a precursor to what the VW owners can expect from the dealers.

Very innovative by VW to place the Shiver ad today.
Come to think of it, the mere thought of buying a VW group vehicle and taking it to the service center gives us shivers down the spine. So the ad is indeed very apt.
Not to mention the diesel clutter which also adds to the shivering experience every morning.

Disclaimer: I own a Skoda which is a VW group car. Above was merely for jest. No harm intended to any of the past, current or potential owners.

I never got the buzzer - just a big black square where the buzzer should be - I thought the ad agency messed up! Interestingly, the ad was with the Delhi Times supplement and not with the main paper.

hahahha!!! Nice way to say good morning, It took the remaining sleep out of me at 6:30. The amount they spent on this, if diverted towards good customer care would have been better.

I am in no way an engineering student. But this is what I think it is as a lay man. The actual vibrating device is powered by 2 tiny batteries attached to a light sensor working as a switch.

Now I feel stupid for thinking it was solar powered. Just imagine the cost escalation it would have led to!

We in Ahmedabad didnt get this vibrator thing in TOI. In our addition full front page is of SRK with Royal Enfield, but the ad is of his upcoming film.

The SRK cover was for the main TOI newspaper. For us here in Bangalore, the Volkswagen cover was for 'Bangalore Times' supplement. I think VW has done it for the supplement paper in metros like Delhi Times, Mumbai times, etc, Maybe there is no 'Ahmedabad times' and that's why this is missing? Just guessing

re: Times of India? Nope, VW of India. EDIT: Vibrating ad on 11 Sept 2012 (Pg 26)

The "VW of India" edition sent a powerful message. The earlier talking ad was also quite innovative.

I found this vibrating business to be plain stupid. Couldn't they have thought of a better way to get people to that ad?

By the way, titled changed from "vibrator" to "vibrating"

re: Times of India? Nope, VW of India. EDIT: Vibrating ad on 11 Sept 2012 (Pg 26)

I just went through this thread and I must say i'm not a fan of this idea. It can scare people, and frankly who'd want to be scared early in the morning when picking up a newspaper. Is it effective? Definitely!

I simply can't resist saying this, i would 'Shiver of excitement' if VW gave the Polo a 90+bhp engine with 4 cyls, it could've changed the fortunes of the Polo in India. All VW managed was to make me shiver everytime I turn the engine off in my Polo TDI

I also received this Stupid vibrating thingy with todays TOI edition. I thought it will talk like the earlier edition but felt disappointed with just vibration coming out of it. Just wondering what they were trying to achieve with this vibrating thing. Has there a voice message like earlier, it would have made some sense but just vibrations...??

Just what the country needed, free vibrators

I did not understand the significance of the thing and it does not make me want to buy a VW product. Gave it to my nephew to play, he is sneaking up on unsuspecting members of the family and making them think that a bug just sat on them, so all in all not a total waste.

+1.

Moreover it's patronizing! These supposedly extraordinary features hardly make for any "shock-value" to anyone these days! Except perhaps that VW itself, which has a reputation of skimping on some of these in the past, has decided to offer them now!!

Haha I know! As it is, they're walking on thin ice here. Wonder who they were trying to hit, with this one!!

You bet it not only looks stupid but also desperate.
