Colourful Rally Sets The Stage For Auto Mall

Bangalore: After a cold spell over the last few days, the sun was out on a warm Thursday afternoon, a perfect weather for vibrant Beetles to be out for a sunny ride. The Volkswagen Beetle is a car of vintage beauty that has led its fans to splurge on it and keep it with a rare passion. As a curtain raiser to the Relio Quick Auto Mall 2009 that starts on Friday, The Bangalore Beetle Club organized the Beetle car rally in the city.
Near the public library at Cubbon Park from where the rally was flagged off, several passers-by stopped for a look at the colourful Beetles, in many hues of red, the classic yellow and in Hitler green, all lined up for mutual admiration, and some envy. The oldest of the lot was a bright red one from 1960 with plush seats and a shiny exterior.
The car rally, flagged off by Kannada actor Prajwal Devraj, went through several parts of the central business district and ended at Palace Grounds where the auto mall will kick off from Friday and end on Sunday.
BEETLE CLUB
The members of the Bangalore Beetle club, started in 2006, try to meet every few months, and sometimes go to the city’s outskirts during weekends for lunch. Chitra Shyamsundar, co-founder of Bangalore Beetle Club, said the club was started about three years ago and, gradually, the membership rose to about 25-30 members.
Beetles are the absolute passion of its members. One member had already spent over Rs 8 lakh on his car, refurbishing its interiors and changing its parts. Aren’t spare parts for the car hard to come by? Roop Sridhar, a member and owner of a 1968 Beetle, said that he gets them from abroad, where Beetle Clubs are much more active and spare parts easier to come by. “I have a friend who comes to India from the US every year. I tell him in case I need any parts. You can also order online,” he says.
AUTO MALL
Sandeep Kapoor, the auto mall’s managing director, said the hugely popular mall was being organized in Bangalore for the first time. The mall will see participation from top automobile brands, and feature auto-related requirements, lounge for luxury cars and bikes, and style biking by stunt riders.

Been there yesterday. The vintage cars from Advaith Hyundai was worth it. The rest was just a look around. I enjoyed the earlier show in Bangalore palce gounds. If you are not visiting it you are not missing anything at all.

The Bugs were about the saving grace of this thing. You could add to that the couple of Beemers on display. Apart from these, there's nothing much in there - just some cars on display. No accessories even. Waste of time, IMO.

I went there expecting to see something exciting, but was disappointed. Other than few Beetles there is nothing much to see. I saw some exciting cars at the parking lot!!!
