Why is Ritz not a hot selling car?

In just a few months maruti has started giving discounts on the Ritz. Was just wondering Why is the Ritz not a hot seller as the Swift though it seems to have

- brighter interiors
- higher seating position
- better ride comfort
- same engine

What is it that went wrong? Is it the design or pricing or is there anything else.

I guess mainly because of the most prominent "feature"- it has the "rear-ended at factory" looks

I think the biggest hurdle is Swift. Swift and Ritz are close to each other in market, Swift is proven and looks good too. Add to that the fact most people buy cars after getting advice from others ( who are also not very much aware as far as automobiles go ) rather than going in for a TD before decision making.

This time Maruti is facing the problem of having too many models close to each other.

oh! did not see that. Mods please shift if required.

Think lot of people would be interested in the ritz (like me) but would be choosing the swift thinking the ritz is not good. just wanted to get some inputs..

We keep seeing threads like why a certain Maruti model doesn't sell. First the A-Star, now the Ritz. The answer is simple. As aggoswami has mentioned, the models are simply splitting the sales between them. Honestly, nothing for Maruti to worry about.

I thought that the Ritz petrol was doing reasonably well going by the sales figures. It's the Ritz diesel that's not doing well from what I tend to hear.

Does every Maruti model has to be a hot selling car? Maruti is selling 6K Ritz every month. What more do you want?

+1.
Ritz is selling at around 5k-6k units per month. That is a very respectable sales figure! Better than Palio, Punto, and Vista?

The Swift placed just above it does around 8k-9k units per month. The WagonR placed just below it sells around 12k units per month! Even the Estilo sold more than 4k units this month.

As far as i can see- it is a win-win situation for Maruti Suzuki! But yes, Ritz diesel sales have been very low compared to Swift diesel!

Two very prominent points which keep people away from a Ritz.
1. Ritz D and Swift D have a price difference of barely 4k from their respective variants. This make people go in for a 'proven' Swift rather than a recently introduced Ritz.
2. That back end!

Has anyone seen a car with the incline of its rear windscreen sloping backwards from bottom to top? IMHO the Ritz is the most unique car in that respect.
