Hi Sid,
Your stoay is one of best outpouring of memories, apart from the stories, one aspect of Indica story is an story of outstanding characters of Ratan Tata ie. dreaming the against odds.
When indica was conceived the auto sector was going thorough first recession of 95-96, during that time a total outlay of 1700 crores for green field passenger car (Indica) project was bravery for sure.
Before that not even an indigenous two wheeler was conveived fully. Even the thought of competing with Japanese and Korean in Automotive fields was audacious.
Nowadays everyone is obseessed with nit-picking the smaller faults of Tatas, should understand the "audacious effort of indigenous Car' and not only conceived but standing to multinationals is an outstanding story of courage.
The large number of vehicles , with features ie. affordability, TCO, diesel economy is sure a tribute by Average Indians to this great idea. Absolute endorsement by Taxi community who's life depends on vehicles, surely says a lot about the product.
Products, processes, technology is not built in a day, but while finding smaller faults with indigenous products/projects, no one should forget the bold dream the pioneers who dared to dream.
Here is one salute to an indigenous dream which become reality and one outstanding story told by Sid!!

You have referred to 'both the magazines' above. The Auto India one has been posted.

I have scanned similar stories from The Indian Auto as well as Car and BIke of January 1999.

May I post it here?
