The beetle is more marketing than anything else. I am sure VW are not expecting to sell many.

From the buyers perspective at 20 lakhs, there are many choices. You will definitely gt the odd person going for it.

In UK the Polo starts from GBP 9400 while the Beetle starts from GBP 12400 so there is around 3k diff in prices. Golf starts at 14000, Jetta at 16000, so that gives you a perspective.

20 laks for a beetle . What is VW tryin to do here ?? You can't phase it out in India for sure not with that price tag and within that price range there are lot of other way better cars for India. Where is brand building here ?? It seems more like suicide .

The first 3 Beetle's will be handed over to the respective owners on December 12th / 13th in Namma Bengaluru.

Will be there in thick of action , will upload photo's soon.

Thats well priced for CKD car my friend. Maybe once production starts in India, we might just see some new decent price.

The Company announced that it has already received 160 units of booking before the launch date that will be held in Mumbai on 4th this month.

Volkswagen India is expecting that it will sell around 500 units of Beetle hatch by next year and it is expected to be priced around Rs 20 - 22 lakhs. Volkswagen has already given its full throttle on its advertisement both on papers & commercials that has reached the right audience to avail these many numbers before launch.

“The upcoming Beetle would sport a 2.0 litre, 115hp petrol engine mated to a 6-speed automatic transmission. Other features include a rain sensor and cruise control, along with acoustic rear parking sensors to fit into small parking spaces. Its safety features will include ABS, traction control, anti-skid system and standard front and side airbags. It is also equipped with features such as remote central locking, heat insulating windshield and side glass, stereo with 6 speakers and CD changer, front centre armrests, power steering, body colored bumpers and 15 inch alloy wheels.” according to newspaper advertisement.

Jorg Mueller, Volkswagen Group chief representative as well as president and managing director Volkswagen India Private Limited recently said in its company’s release recently, “We will soon be introducing new car models in India like the Volkswagen New Beetle or the Volkswagen Polo to enhance our presence in the market, besides providing technologically advanced cars for Indian customers. At the same time our state-of-the-art-factory in Pune is ready for the start of production of the Polo which will be launched at the Auto Expo 2010 in New Delhi. The Polo’s pedigree is of German engineering and technology, adapted for the domestic market and assembled by Indian skills.”

“It is an iconic brand and people know more about the car than Volkswagen. It will be brought to Indian as a completely built unit,” said by Volkswagen India (Passenger car) board of directors, member, Neeraj Garg couple of months back.

VW closes out New Beetle production with Final Editions

Volkswagen’s New Beetle – which hasn’t been new in about a decade – will wrap up production soon with a series of 3,000 Final Edition trim packages before an all-new New Beetle bows.

Split equally between 1,500 hardtop and 1,500 convertible models, the Final Editions will be in dealers in Spring. The hardtops feature Aquarius Blue paint with a black roof, while the convertibles go retro with a similarly Aquarius Blue base and a Campanella White center section. Each will get individually numbered badges and special integrated fog lamps outside.
Inside, the Final Editions get a unique steering wheel and convertibles will come with a white vinyl interior that matches the white top.
VW says that the otherwise optional sport suspension and 17-inch alloy wheels will be standard on the Final Editions.
No mechanical changes will be made to the 2.5-liter five-cylinder gas engine and six-speed Tiptronic automatic.
The hardtop will be offered at $20,240 and the convertible will retail from $27,170.

So we guys are buying a small car which has had the last buy already announced worldwide.

Sounds like what we did with the E-Class merc in 2005/6. - Even the price range is similar.

In the same article, a guy was quoted saying that he sold his old Beetle last year for 26000/- and had he not sold it, it could have fetched him atleast 4-5 lacs.
