Correct me if I'm wrong, but uptill recently, both the safari and the sumo shared the same chassis and the same engine. Even the front suspension was the same. But then the sumo is a good vehicle in its own segment.

Safari - Scorpio

Safari does not offer an 8 seater version.. And has crappily built interiors...

A lot more comfortable though...

For me the safari was always about supreme comfort and that classy & grand SUV look. Apart from that it has little to offer as far as driving is concerned. I cant really comment on the 2.2L. Reports suggest that it has problems. I am sure if TATA would solve these problems, it would be my first choice. But as of the moment, the scorpio seems a more "sensible" SUV.

I have not driven the recent incarnations but I have driven the Scorpio (turbo diesel) and the old Safari TD extensively. I thought they were on par with each other apart from when it came to the engine. The Scorpio engine had extra power especially when driving from stationary. The Safari was like a tortoise when trying to get away in 1st/2nd gear.

Dude how can they share the same chasis when the wheelbase is different?

These are "classic" comments & inferences & at times I really think we should open a separate thread for these kind of illogical & baseless inferences - we could even give the thread a five star rating since, like Mastercard, it would be priceless

I'm also wondering about the "till recently" bit & the same engine

As I said earlier, I was not sure about the chassis, and on that I mentioned that I could be wrong, and mite need correction. It was more of a question I posed, and was not stating any fact. Calling a post illogical,... well I would not like to state anything on that.
Also I am under the impression that the Sumo turbo shared the same engine as the non-crd safari.

Hey JUDA,

If you are REALLY waiting for the Fortuner, should wait for another 10 months and be ready with about 1.6 Million INR +.

This is an absolutely informed news. Fortuner to be rolled out along with the new Corolla in Sep 08.
