Coming soon: BMW 320 D for passat price. EDIT: Launched as the Corporate Edition

Yes, you heard it right. The current 320 D is available in 2 variants:
  • 320D basic-29,50,000 ex-Delhi
  • 320D high line-30,50,000 ex-Delhi
BMW will launch stripped down model called 320D executive priced at about 24 lakh, ex-Delhi which removes sunroof, power seats and cupholders etc (cannot recall anything else).

Expected price is around Rs. 24 lakh ex-Delhi. The 3 series basic will be discontinued while the high line will remain.

Wow ! That's some news. 5L lower !

This could potentially woo some of the Accord/Camry/Superb customers. Even more so, if Merc/Audi responds to this.

Read the news in ACI, but they say it will be only available for fleet customers.

I haven't got hold of ACI but the dealer confirmed that general customers will also be able to buy it.

That would turn the 18-30 lakh Market on its Head. As always BMW re-defining things their own way.

That's bang in the OLD C class territory. If Benz introduces a further stripped down version of the C, wonder whats left to remove except the sun roof.

How about the 318 petrol? will it get the same treatment.

put in a petrol and manual transmission and bring it under the 20L barrier.

BTW, in Europe I think they also have a low power diesel called 318d.

lol. How much will they save removing the cupholders???

If they remove the sunroof, electric seats and if they put in regular tubeless with a space saver tyre they will be able to reduce the costs further.

This sounds like great news. This would force others in the segment and the one below to cut their fat margins.

Thats indeed market shaking news. But the question is will Honda and MB do anything to the prices of Accord or C Class respectively

Is BMW going to spoil the image a bit by offering lesser in the same model, even if it's going to cost less?

Current model going out might not be exactly a great news. Because it offered not as many frills as highline but still enough?

I hate a model series when heavily stripped down versions exist in the same. It feels scary to me.

Yep, the present 3 series (E90) is into its fourth year so expect a major upgarde or maybe even a all new model especially since the new C and A3 are out. So with the age of the car and stronger competition BMW has to do what every other car maker does in such a situation.

Is BMW is going this 3-Series as their sale are down or just to fight with increasing sale of VW Passat ???
I think they are giving these remaining 3-Series at a price of VW Passat as they will be launching a face lifted 3-Series next year around.
