Maruti stops production of Versa/new van to be launched

I have just read the news feed in Economic Times stating that Maruti has stopped production of the versa van.Now its just a matter of time before the O2 is launched.

Source : Economic Times

The country's largest car maker, Maruti Suzuki India(MSI) on Monday said that it will launch this fiscal to replace its MPV Versa, whose production has been stopped

"We will be launching a new van by the end of this fiscal. This vehicle will replace the Versa, whose production has already been stopped," Maruti Suzuki India managing executive officer (Engineering) IV Rao told reporters on the sidelines of the Fourth Environmentally Friendly Vehicle Conference in New Delhi.

He, however, did not give the price point of the soon-to-be launched vehicle.

MSI is also looking to produce one million vehicles by the end of this fiscal.
"Hopefully, we will have one million units in production by the end of this financial year by utilising our full capacity," Rao said.

He added the company is working on making all its models Bharat Stage-IV compliant as required under the government norms.

"We have not completed BS-IV compliance norms on all our models but we are working towards that direction," Rao said.

I think this should clear the air that the O2, or whatever this new vehicle will be called, is going to replace the Versa and not the Omni. IMO the Omni is going to continue to be in prodcution with the same F8D motor tuned to meet the BSIV emission norms.

The O2 will be powered with a ritz's KB series engine and will be launched in January third week. Meanwhile, whether the omni will be phased out in Euro 4 cities from april/ or will it be upgraded to meet euro 4 norms is unknown.

Also unknown whether the vehicle will be on display at the expo, given maruti's history of not launching products directly here.

IMO the O2 is going to be a facelifted Versa with the K12M motor from the Ritz. A price cut can be expected due to drop in excise duty, courtesy the K12M motor. What remains to be seen is whether they will strip down the Versa, which was positioned as a premium van when launched, and price it agressively. What the Versa really needed to get it moving on the sales chart was the 1.3 DDIS, but that may not happen in the near future.

Glad to hear the demise of this car OR Van. Big B and Junior B, could do nothing with the van, as it didnt had anything in it to pull people.

Look forward to the replacement, hope Maruti makes it like they did with SX4 replacing Baleno and Dzire replacing Esteem.

if they bring out this MUV(as per their saying)with good performance and with good power and if it is priced between 8-9L then there is a good competition for Scorpio/Safari given a good *** of Maruthi

I don't think this is going to be in the 8-9L bracket. That would be way too high. IMO it would be priced below the current Versa thanks to the excise duty benefit from the K12M motor. The critical question is how much less. Will it come down to below current WagonR territory or will it be in the current Swift territory?

Latest news is that it will be priced above WagonR at around 4 lakhs for the base version. No information on it getting a diesel engine so far. It would most probably be a facelifted Versa with K series motor from Ritz.

If that'd be the new Versa, it looks a lot better. Can be a hit with many ranges & can give a fight to the likes of Winger & Xylo. But it desperately needs a diesel engine.

IMO, that's the Suzuki APV, not the new Versa. The O2(new Versa) would most probabaly be a facelifted Versa aka the new Estilo (read new grille, headlamps, tail lamps and bumpers) with the 1.2 K series motor from the Ritz. Don't expect a radical new design here.
