knowing Maruti, they will not replace the current Swift, but will keep another hatch probably "Swifter"

800,Alto,Estilo,A star, Wagon-R,Swift - how many hatches do they need?

They are targeting the fast growing middle class community who are slowly inching towards the upper-middle class - a hatchback is going to be the first cars for most of them.

I dont think Americans would be able to fit through the rear doors. It looks as if the dimensions have not changed.

Make hay while the sun shines! Create as many models, Sell as many as they can! After all, they are entitled to make money!

Its not about how many they need, but how many do *we* need.
The small car market is huge and giving customers more choices Maruti is aiming to have the biggest chunk of that market. For the consumers too, the more the choices, the better. Whats the harm.

Well the answer depends on how you see things as a customer.

Would I prefer ten choices , all with "free" rattles and suspect build quality or two good options which are reliable and built well? I guess i would probably choose the latter

This car is expected to hit the roads in around mid-2010.
Is the car really due for any changes guys ?
Can anybody confirm this please.

But manufacturers and customers would choose the former ! You should not include reliability in the latter. Marutis are very reliable.

by personal experience - yes they are reliable. Dad's 800, had served us quite well for long 8 years before we disposed it off. There were not many choices then too it's either 800, Zen or Esteem. Not so sure about newer models though.

Well, i would anyday prefer a reliable and trouble free car to the one having doors which close with a reassuring thud or having tank like build (if that's your definition of "built well"), but having serious after sales and reliability issues coupled with non availability of spares.

FYI i have a 5 year old wagonR and it has never rattled. True, its not build like a tank neither does it have the "thud", but i don't care for it, as long as it serves me well and is trouble free and efficient at the same time.

This would be Maruti's answer to the Fabia/GP segment I would think.

I am still not tired of the current Swift and the way she looks. She's almost like an Indian Mini. This new one doesn't come close. And its UGLY!
