Interiors look good but from outside its just identical to the current swift, though the current version looks great even about 6 years of launch close to 9k new swifts on road each month is making all bit bored with the all too familiar look. But all said thank god they didnt go the Zen - Zen Estillo type make over. IMO that was the biggest blunder maruti did.
The biggest challange for Maruti with new swift would be to retian the 'small car' dimensions to avail excise benefit and at the same time take on premium hatches.
OT: Still wondering when they will come out with Sx4 hatch and that too with a diesel offering will be a non maruti premium hatch killer.

I hope Maruti to launch the new bigger better Swift as 'Swift Senior' with a bigger K-series engine at a starting price of 5L.

And then, they need to modify the current Swift exterior and make it digestible to the customers looking for 'slim' cars, by removing the bulging wheel arches, thereby reducing the width to 1600mm from current 1695mm.

Then, customers will have 2 options: a performing - flashy Swift @ 5 lakhs, and a sleek - non flashy Swift @ 4 lakhs.

They already have A-Star which is based on the same platform as Swift with width = 1600mm.

Some how I feel Maruti's plan is to push Ritz as replacement to Swift in-terms of numbers which is why they priced it neck to neck with Swift and then launch a bigger and better Swift which can distinguish itself from Ritz price-wise and take on primarily i20 as well as Polo/Punto and upcoming Fiesta hatch.

But A-Star lacks the mature + stylish looks that made Swift a big hit. Though A-Star's ride quality is good, it lacks the 1.2L engine option also, when compared to Swift.

Though Ritz can take over the current Swift position easily in terms of quality, it can never enjoy the current sales figures of Swift at any time, I think. Because, in terms of looks, Ritz is nowhere near to Swift.

I think Maruti can afford to get the all-new Swift and replace it with the current one, rather than selling two Swifts side by side.Which can also very well happen.

Yes,and I agree, the Swift is starting to show its age.In spite of being one of the smartest looking hatches in the country today,it needs refreshing. What I think is,Maruti will phase out the current Swift but plonk the same 1.2 K-Series and 1.3 MJD into the new model.Keeping costs in check, and also an all new bigger, more spacious model. Its a win-win situation for MSIL!

Maruthi please - No more minor changes

As a Swift owner I am very disappointed with the initial pictures of "New" Swift.I may be pessimistic. The major change seems to be the change in the design of the lights and dash.

Swift is the car Maruthi should work on.Effort should be put to liberate more space, especially at the rear .Overall quality should improve.Brakes should be better. It should be rattle free at least for 5 years. They should provide a diesel variant with airbags and a good ICE(unlike in Dzire).

Even if there is a marginal increase in price, customers will buy the car for its strengths.

Spot on! I think they can very well pull it off too.

But does anyone else think that the headlamps and more so the tail lamps bear a similarity with the i20?

this merely looks like a face lift (what fiat did with the palio stile). Than a model change (unless the wheelbase has been improved).

This is just a PS job done on the current Swift giving a general idea on how the all-new model could look like, highlighting the new design elements. The new model will surely be bigger and built on a new platform.

P.S.- No blacked out A-pillars it seems.Sad!

This one is going to be pure evolutionary.Which is a good thing! The entire idea of the original Swift hasn't been altered one bit.Even the ORVMs have the same design, but are just bigger and more rounded off.

I was chatting with a plant manager of one of the auto-components' company and he did mention about the new swift- which he said would be cheaper than the existing model and better in all aspects.
Out of curiousity , I asked him as to which company did he find stresses most on quality ( incidentally they make components for most of the brands here and abroad) and prompt reply was 'Toyota'.

He added there was no company near 'Toyota' in terms of emphasising on quality rather than the price points. However, if we leave aside Toyota, it is Suzuki and while elaborating it- he mentioned about new swift. There is another car 'Dolphin' which is being planned by Tata's in between Nano and Indica range , he mentioned. Now wondering whats this 'dolphin' -@sidindica.
