The Maruti Eeco minivan (EDIT: now launched for 2.6 Lakhs)

Friends, Bhpians , countrymen:
This just in from BSM . Anyone got more lowdown on this?

Buy New Maruti Eeco | New Maruti Eeco Prices | Reviews | Features | Photos | BS Motoring

The BSM folks seem pretty confident to put in a picture and all that. Does anyone know what this is going to look like ?

Nice move though. The seven-seater market segment will be created before the Avanza-kind of vehicle moves into India. Another cash cow if the execution is right. But I don't get why they cannot put a 1.3 MJD into it. Volkswagen, maybe? Frankly if this is going to sport a 1.3 MJD then it would be a killer and eat into all sorts of segments! Not bad with the Ritz 1.2 going into it anyways, though (as the article seems to suggest).

Maruti Suzuki to launch new family car - News- Zigwheels
So does Zigwheels reports the same.

I am wondering if this is same car as being discussed in other thread on replacement/alternative for WagonR with lengthier car. Is this the same car? or totally new

A writeup on eeco is there in todays 'The Telegraph'(Kolkata). It mentions eeco as 'a new 5-7 seater 1200cc 5 door car' and also states that the eeco is to be priced under 4 lakhs and touted as the affordable car for the big family. The bulk of the writeup talked about Kizashi though.

Spotted an article about this in TOI. You can read it here.

Since they are calling it a 'car', could this be the replacement for the WagonR? But a 3 row - 7 seater configuration?

Looks bigger than the Versa to my eyes!

Pricing under 4 Lakhs is something to watch and MSIL should have a winner with this (If they get the pricing rite)!

Under 4 lakhs!

Thats going to be a tough target to achieve, unless there is a fire sale on! Under 4 lakhs ex-factory maybe and even that for the base model and nothing more. Even the puny teeney weeney A - Star doesn't come for under 4 lakhs!!

MARUTI has something up their sleeves. Wonder what their strategy will be with the 800 and OMNI, will they retire these vehicles? There was talk in the papers about a new concept small car which will be put into production if the public at the Expo likes it

1200cc Petrol for a 7 seater?

I dont think it'l attract many customers unless they give it a diesel engine or atleast a more powerful petrol unit.

I was expecting it to be something like the Innova but it seems too basic.

I expect Maruti to disappoint us by renaming current Versa as EECO and relaunch it with newer engine, preferably a 1.2Ltr one and with some cosmetic changes here and there.

I never expect them to launch AVP as Versa replacement at 4 Lakh price tag! By the way did they ever replaced any car with a newer international version of the same car here in India?

Though it looks outdated it sseems safer and better than the present omni .

They should launch the APV also . The potential to rock the Innova , Xylo etc is there .

If its lesser than 4 mtrs. and mated to a 1.2 it will benefit from the Govt. tax/excise deductions. Maruti will be really able to price it real low.
