This is how the small car market dynamics would look like in one year's time.
Any corrections/ opinions/ suggestions are welcome.

Lower A segment:Upper A segment:Lower B segment:Upper B segment:Lower B plus segment:Upper B plus segment:**will not be available in Euro 4 cities, but will continue to be available in rest of the country.

Where do u want to fit the Ford Fusion with 1.6P or 1.4D ;)

we also have electric cars coming up in 2010.hyundai i10,hybrid small car from toyota and honda i guess, can we add that too.

I'm somehow not happy with the SWIFT being placed in a segement above the RITZ. I also think that the TOYOTA should be Upper B+ and the PUNTO, POLO and FIGO should be donwgraded to Upper B. The i10 cannot straddle segments!

Just my 2cents. Wonderful thought gone into this thread SID, only you can do it.

stupid: but how does these cars being categorized as Segment A, B, C and so on? Is it the price/size/shape/Engine specs./ what is it?

In one word: "Public Perception" :D
(sorry that's 2 words)

Personally I kinda tend to agree with sidindica

sidindica: Should the Ritz be positioned in the same segment as of Swift ?

I think price should be the main criteria. Within hatches, the higher the price, the higher the segment. But I can't see the point of these classifications. Unless we have a proper universal system, every magazine and forum will classify each of these slightly differently.

There is still some confusion regarding the new WagonR in my mind. If its going to be bigger, heavier than the current one (as seen in other threads and Autocar mag) then 1.0 lt engine would make it underpowered and not at all good to drive in city.
Downgrading the engine in terms of number of cylinders (even if its an upgrade in terms of power/torque figures) is a step in the wrong direction. I sincerely hope that the new WR comes with a 1.1 lt or above 4 cyl K series engine.
Maruti should understand that unlike the Estilo, WagonR has built a strong brand image over the years. It deserves better treatment IMO.
