Overdrive Track Test Day at MMSC

On one of my daily youtube sessions I found these videos of the Overdrive team running these beauties on the track at chennai.

I love the exhaust note of the SL63!

Enjoy!

Nice, refreshing and absolute petrolhead kinda videos. Such a welcome change from the usual fare that auto shows dish out. The last video that I enjoyed as much was Renuka's coverage on the S Class

great videos.
In the 530d video, there is a Nano also parked!
And the A6 video has a bit scary moment at 6:30 when there is a car parked on the track!!

Hmm, 2:12 from the Laura 1.8 TSI driven by Gill. Thats an impressive lap time. It'l be a good reference time for the next track day.

Overdrive have done a really great job this issue. Which is why I picked it up after a really long time with ACI. The V-box with video is excellent.

Hmm. I watched 2 of those (neither of them complete) and I got bored .
Is it too much of Top Gear or did the driver look too non-committed to the drive? Maybe both.

Ok, i did some calculations to see which car makes the most use of its performance in a straightline.

What i basically did was take the top speed and the average speed around the track, then calculate the percentage of the average speed wrt to the cars top speed (on track). So if a car has an average speed of 100kmph and a top speed of 140kmph then the resulting average speed percentage would be "ave speed x 100 / top speed"

And heres how they fare -

1st - BMW 3 SERIES
TOP SPEED - 148KMPH
LAP TIME - 2' 10.86
AVE SPEED - 102.93KMPH
AVE SPEED PERCENTAGE - 69.54%

2nd - AUDI TT
TOP SPEED - 159KMPH
LAP TIME - 2' 05.19
AVE SPEED - 107.54KMPH
AVE SPEED PERCENTAGE - 67.63%

3rd - SKODA LAURA 1.8 TSI
TOP SPEED - 152KMPH
LAP TIME - 2' 12.95
AVE SPEED - 101.30KMPH
AVE SPEED PERCENTAGE - 66.64%

4th - AUDI A4 3.2
TOP SPEED - 163KMPH
LAP TIME - 2' 05.12
AVE SPEED - 107.6KMPH
AVE SPEED PERCENTAGE - 66.01%

5th - BMW 530 D
TOP SPEED - 158KMPH
LAP TIME - 2' 10.84
AVE SPEED - 102.93
AVE SPEED PERCENTAGE - 65.14%

6th - PORSCHE CAYENNE TURBO
TOP SPEED - 166KMPH
LAP TIME - 2' 05.88
AVE SPEED - 106.95KMPH
AVE SPEED PERCENTAGE - 64.42%

7th - AUDI A6
TOP SPEED - 163KMPH
LAP TIME - 2' 09.63
AVE SPEED - 103.86
AVE SPEED PERCENTAGE - 63.71%

8th - BMW X6
TOP SPEED - 167KMPH
LAP TIME - 2' 06.98
AVE SPEED - 106.03KMPH
AVE SPEED PERCENTAGE - 63.49%

9th - PORSCEH PANAMERA
TOP SPEED - 172KMPH
LAP TIME - 2' 04.50
AVE SPEED - 108.14KMPH
AVE SPEED PERCENTAGE - 62.87%

10th - MERC SL 65 AMG
TOP SPEED - 185KMPH
LAP TIME - 2' 02.41
AVE SPEED - 109.99KMPH
AVE SPEED PERCENTAGE - 59.45%

So the car with the fastest lap is also the one that has the lowest ave speed percentage. Had the SL65 AMG been able to achieve 69.54% (which the 3 series did), its lap time would been 1' 45.18

PS : The BMW Z4 was not considered as Gill spun the car on track before he could complete the lap.

Nice videos

Shan:it depends upon the driver who drivers and his expert level in professional racing. so we can't take this timing and judge a car .All car's are not driven by the same driver so there will be a difference.

All the cars in the vids were driven by Gaurav Gill. Its just that he is wearing a diff t-shirt in some of them.
