the front headlights are very huge and on similar lines on indica vista. the bumper is more macho with no much detailing. one can imagine a front of indica vista X 1.5 times.

I saw the same beast being tested in Pune. Saw not once or twice but a couple of times. The most recent spotting I had was near Dapodi on the old Mumbai-Pune highway. Was on my bike and unfortunately could not click pics of the same :(

It is purely for aesthetic purpose. I guess they took that design cue from US cars where most of premium versions come with dual mufflers.

Typically, two pipes are used (one on each side of the vehicle) if there are two banks of cylinders that needs to be exhausted from, meaning an engine in a "V" arrangement as in v6, v8 v10 etc. There are exceptions to this though.

So there is a possibility for this vehicle to have such a configuration atleast as an option for its engine. Reason to rejoice?!

However some cars use Twin pipes from a single exhaust (on one side only) as found in cars like the City VTEC. But thats not how it appears on this test mule.

Next Gen Tata Safari spied (not Indicruz)

Overdrive Magazine (Aug-09 issue), Pg 34

Quoting verbatim

"The new safari may just be around the corner. Our alert reader, Rohit Chandrashekhar spotted this test mule doing runs around the Tata Motors plant in Pune. Our sources point out this new Safari, code named X2, will retain the current 2.2-liter VTT engine and it might undergo a little fine tuning for added power and torque and for increased fuel efficiency. The new Safari could have new radical interiors because the existing interiors are ten years old. The new interiors could also borrow some lines from the Indicruz's dashboard. There are chances that the new Safari could comewith a 200+ bhp DICOR engine. Fiat's 1.9 liter Multijet engine could also find its way into this new Safari. And not to forget, Tata's aquisition of Land Rover mightlead to a Land Rover engine being plodded into the Safari. In all likelyhood, this new Safari could make ots appearance at next year's Auto Expo."

Attached is a disgustingly low res image.

Note

1.) Thick upper lip over grille a-la-land-rover.

2.) Trademarkl wide grin grille incorporated in Tata Safari also.

I dont think it resembles that pic. This looks more like a SUV, rather than similar to a MUV.

The spypic is not the Indicruz, firstly the bonnet profile is much longer than the Cruz and the glass area much smaller.

The spy pic is definitely an SUV, but not sure which one.

Upon hard gazing , the front left wheel appears similar to existing safari. Note the protruding conical (chopped) wheel nut carrier.

200hp was part of the project briefing. I suspect mainly for export markets. I do not know whether the proposal survived. I think the twin exhausts must have some hint there!

No. Long ago, there were reports of development of a 3.0L V6 engine. Infact if the reports were to be believed, development was already concluded, validation was being done.

On the Indicruz, we see two exhaust pipes. Maybe they are testing the V6 engine on that platform, since it was already available.

Means?

A project like that of a Safari which will cost ten lakhs will not reach anywhere if they restrict themselves to India.
