Yes, I (it was my friend actually who was driving) would have accelerated to catchup upto about 130km/hr.

The vehicle had 2 exhaust pipes.

It was MH-14 temporary number plate.

The stretch was between Kolhapur and Belgaum. This part of NH4 has comparately less traffic; has cement track for most part, and 3-laned in some places such as ghat sections. So it could be one used most often for test drives.

So I guess 140 or 160 or 170 bhp is yet not confirmed and we do need to wait for the autoexpo.

Does anyone have any idea when bookings would open - immediately after autoexpo or a couple of months later?

I cannot still believe its the normal 140 hp 2.2 on a 1.8 ton (say) vehicle.

Is this perhaps one of the first prototypes with V6? I know they were looking at this for some export markets. Did you notice any difference in the engine sound? I know its not easy to listen these things in traffic, still...

no V6. the production vehicles have dual exhaust. nothing hoolah about it. a single pipe converges into 2. thats it.

amit_mechengg : Do you have any leads on this:-

https://www.team-bhp.com/forum/india...6-200-bhp.html (New Tata Safari(x2) 3.0, V6, 200+ Bhp)

specially this portion :

Hmmm well im answering ur query...Tata Motors AGM is already over. New Dicor 2.2 may be slated for launch in this festive seasons otherwise in Jan-07, the development is already over & currently itz on validation. i've also driven both DICORS ( 2.2 for Safari & 1.4 (90 bhp) for Indica/Indigo during my summer interns at Engineering Reserch Centre (ERC), Tata Motors R&D Headquaters, Pune.

Both engines are OSSUM & chef-d'oeuvre, they can dupe anyone as petrol but bigger surprise is that new 3.0 V6 200+bhp is under development...well specificly development over just validation & testing is to be done. This engine 'll be used in next gen Safari Platform (X2) fron 2008 onwards...again remind you that this engine is inhouse one, not with AVL. So hats off to Tata guys.

Indian Market is very mileage sensitive and 200+ bhp V6 engines are not. Forget Tata's many of the Foreign manufactures offer few V6s and V8s and that too only on CBU vehicles. It takes a lot of money to develop a new engine and unless Tata can justify the volumes I doubt they will do it. At best they may borrow one from JLR and modify it. Remember that you can make 200+ bhp from a turbo-ed 4 cylynder. There's really no reason to spend that kind of money given the very limited market in India and Europe (where Tata exports a lot).

The supposed V6 project started much before JLR acquisition. The engine may be aimed at a future product lineup aimed at European markets as the top of the line engine option. Any auto manufacturer worth his salt does offer atleast a V6 in mature markets.

Borrowing a JLR V6, built in Europe for TML products would definately be very expensive and rob the vehicle of its VFM proposition. As I see it the other way round is definately a possibility : JLR basing its future engine lineup (atleast a few diesel ones) on newer versions of TML powertrain.

Eg : the 2.2VTT engine could be used as a baseline, refined further and replace the Peugeot sourced 2.2 TD4 HSE on the LR Freelander. Indian manufactured engine would be more cost effective for JLR too.

Think of it, it is within the realm of possibility.

The V6 seems unlikely for the indicruz, but had read about the V6 ages back myself and have always belived that I would come by 2010, so it's a surprise to hear no news about it.

A V6 diesel may not be as bad for fuel effeciency as we tend to worry.

From this lovely forum, I gather following features in Indicruze:

* 2.2L DiCOR Powerplant (As Safari though power could be either 140bhp or 160+ bhp)
* Price is not 7-9L as rumored earlier but rather in the band of 11-14L (I actually believed this earlier...check my earlier posts on this thread )
* Upgraded Electronics (8 micro processors et al)
* MPV/MUV style looks.
* 7 seater config
* LED Lights and Projector Lamps
* Competition is marked in range of 18-25L.
* A totally different target customer as opposed to Safari

...That is hell lot of information deduced from our thread. Now only if Sid could make this list tiny wee bit longer (just by a bit...please!) so tht our curiosity is satiated (or more excited, actually!) for next 20 days!!!

Looks like the pressure cooker is getting bigger and bigger before it explodes like a B 29 dropped bomb ....as this thread will become one-of-a kind on tbhp.
Why?
