Hello Maurizio,

Great to hear about your recent outing with that swinging involved.

That is one great list you have; hope your wishes are fulfilled! Yes, Safari is a great product, just that TATA has yet to realize its potential!

Hope to see some travelogue of your teams outing.

That is good news. Will wait for the Xover and after seeing it in flesh ( or maybe reading reviews from early adopters) will take a call.

So the indicruz nee Xover (when did the name change??) is not the Safari replacement eh? So now we've got more work to do to go around scooping the new safari!! The NPD team in TATA sure have lotsa work to do.

Hope TATA gets to see your post. I'm sure they've addressed part of your list for the upcoming safari if not completely.
Keep posting about your offroad adventures. matter of fact I'm sure we'd like to see more pix from your Offroad trip.
OK, boys & girls, you asked for it, you got it !!!

This is IGGY showing the rich kids in a Toyota how to get on with it !

================================================== ======

This is the little brook we forded in the morning... so little water you can't even fish in it !

================================================== ======

Same brook, same ford, only a different angle... watch out or the fish will call you LUNCH !!!

================================================== ======

Fixing a loose front hub... manual hubs may be bothersome to engage, but they're much more reliable...

================================================== ======

One Safari towing another out of an unexpected ditch... Brothers in Arms...

================================================== ======

This is little ol' ME (the TataZucca) going up a slippery slope - 15-20% slope, the mud hopelessly churned by those who tried before me,
and all I had were so called "dirt - 50%ers" i.e. good for dry offroading, no mud expected...

The TataZucca would make it about halfway up, then the climb would get steeper and she would slow down and the wheels would churn in the mud...

We made it up on my 7th try ! Never give up ! Never EVER be towed up a hill !!!

Maurizio

More to come, but we deserve a thread all to ourselves !

awesome pix. We don't use the safari as best as you've used it.
you definitely need a new thread to post all your off-roading pix in and I guess mods will do that for you. I guess you PM on of the Support guys and they'll create one thread exclusively for you.
Keep them coming.

+1 to that! Never thought the stock form of the Safari can wade thru so much of water!

I do hope you get the new thread and all the photos of that excursion up.

@ MPESCATORI >> I loved your post about your expectations from Tata regarding the Safari offroading requirements. You have spoken for many Safari offroad enthusiasts, me included.
Can you elaborate on the 'discreet' mods that you have carried out on your truck.

The pic of the Safari fording on the return is simply stunning.

Cheers,
J

Hey, you guys make me blush.

The 1st thing I can say. I assure you the Safari with water to the bonnet made it through safe and sound,
and NO WATER in the cabin !!! (but we all experienced the "LOW OIL PRESS" light coming on halfway through the ford, possibly because of a temporary short circuit c/o the water lapping at the contacts)

As for the pics, I will ask for a special thread to be createdm and post a few pics from the TataClub Elephant 4x4 website (copyright TataClub Elephant 4x4)

As for the "discreet mods"

1) replaced OEM paper air filter element with synthetic "K&N"-style element;
2) replaced kat-converter with length of straight pipe;
3) deactivated EGR valve;
4) reprogrammed EMU to compensate for increased flow of intake/exhaust
=>this allowed the engine to improve performance from 108bhp to 138bhp on rolling road, mpg efficiency improved by 5-10% depending on conditions

5) raised suspension 5cm with teflon pads under rear coil springs, adjusted front torsion bar +4cm, adjusted suspension linkages accordingly.
(one item had to be replaced with longer, adjustable version)

6) extra set of steel wheels, offset +40mm, with more performing offroad tyres (excellent on dirt, rocks, anything that isn't deep mud.

7) instrumentation improved with turbo boost gauge (boost improved from 8psi to 16psi without even touching the waste-gate, just by improving intake/exhaust!) and oil pressure, temperature gauges.

More to come:
A) I'm trying to find a way to fit a snorkel to the left wing, possibly from a land Rover Discovery, and place a second battery where the air filter currently sits;
B) I'm looking for either a 6-speed manual gearbox or a 5-speed hydraulic auto'box (no electronics, the Tata EMU will not control an electronic auto'box) (keep in mind I have the 3.0 DICOR)
C) light bar on roof (I've already got the items, just have to assemble them) As they will be "working lights" not "see how pretty I am" lights, they are three 7" round items, the central one 1x100W filament, the two external 60/55W off a motorcycle. also, two high-powered 50W lights for reversing offroad at night.

2-way Radio: currently a 40ch., 4W CB radio; to be fitted, 50W VHF (mandatory for Africa)

Hi friends,

Safari is now in a major problem beacuse sales have gone drastically down from present months some 600 nos to next month only 160 nos are to produced, majority of those in LX. Considering the prevaling festive season this is quite shocking. This is also concerning ... as the model change is expected in Jan -March10 quarter.
