Any tweaking options available for the Diesel polo ?

Sounds interesting at 180NM torque figures. Nevertheless Pete's + the green cotton can add a 20% more performance margin to those numbers, bringing it to 90 BHP.

Not a bad car if placed at 6-6.75 lakhs for the Highline on road.

The brochure clearly says that the Diesel will be launched later than the petrol. And it also says it will be a CRDi rather than the PD engine. Hope VW dont cut down on the features even more to price the Diesel sensibly.

Well atleast its a proper tyre. Out here, a spacesaver means a tiny wheel. Its as wide a motorbike's maybe. Its just so that you can get to a mechanic. This is from Audi (a TT actually) :

Will Race Polo also be available at dealers for sale? Wouldn't that be a terrific option for auto enthusiasts?

Come to think of it. VW is gunning to be world's top automaker and they can't even come up with a fully functional website for a new product.
The site appears to be fully functional now

The existence of the 1.6 petrol is good.

The lack of features on the Highline variant is alarming. No automatic climate control. No electric adjustment for rear view mirrors. No bluetooth. No USB/iPod support. No leather. Only 2 airbags (v/s 6 on the i20).

Worst of all, no automatic? VW is selling itself short by not including the option of DSG on this car.

In my opinion, the top-end highline variant should have been exactly the same as the European Polo, with the same exterior detailing (lights) and interior gadgets.

My idea of buying a Polo just vanished. Its going to be a white ANHC for me in 2010.

Is this what they mean by German Engineering -- even a 14" spare would do
I haven't seen that detail on the website,
but I know they do, do such thing called "space saver" i.e.
the spare wheel is smaller in size than other four wheels.

Does the ANHC have bluetooth? 6 airbags? Full fledged ACC? Leather seats?

By that logic, you should drop the ANHC and looked upward to a Civic.

The colour options are very limited.
For the Trendline version just 2 colours are available. Red and white.
This is too less weaponery for the Polo base version to compete with Swift and Ritz.

Leaving out the service factors, how does the Polo compare with the Fabia? Is it much more desirable? A first glance, for me, says no.

I hope VW unlike Skoda will test their cars properly especially with the lower grade Indian fuel which will eliminate the petrol fabia woes which have plagued many owners due to no fault of theirs. Service too has to be a lot better and should rival Maruti/Hyundai in this regard and not just better than Skoda to really have an impact here. Pricing will be a huge factor and if all these are taken care I dont see why VW cars wont be desirable.

Other cars in the same segment have these features. The Grande Punto has bluetooth and steering mounted audio controls. The i20 has 6 airbags. My 2005 Swift has ACC.

More importantly, the top variant (Highline) Polo sold in Europe has all these features. So if VW had sold the same car here, it would have been a clear segment leader when it came to features and gadgets. With these features, the Polo would have been (for me*) a better car than the ANHC. But in the absence of these features, the ANHC, with its more powerful engine, becomes the better car.

* I am indifferent between cars that have a boot and hatchbacks, so for my needs these two cars are essentially in the same segment (as they are internationally).
