Good luck overtaking a truck at 60 kmph in 30 seconds on a two lane indian roads... A truck signifies size and the extra power comes into picture when you want to overtake a 10 meter vehicle in 5 seconds...or else even an Alto can overtake any truck

I have driven a Santro 1.1 L about 2000 km on highways. I did not face any problems . Overtaking as such was quite easy. Infact i was the one overtaking for the most part . All the bigger cars were mostly doing 80 kmph at an average. If you are a good driver , you will know the limitations of your car and can manipulate its strengths for your advantage and overcome its weaknesses. .A few sedans and SUVs/MPV like Scorpio and Xylo did overtake me. In the last leg i was easily keeping up with a Fiesta and a Skoda who were racing each other and i was tailing them(this was in light traffic) .My average speed was 100kmph . You don't get uninterrupted stretches where a powerful car can do 150kmph for more than 5- 10 min.

BTW there was an ALTO which was doing 90-100 in moderate traffic and ripped past me and most other cars.I never saw him again. Advantage of his smaller footprint.

Finally they have set the launch date on 23rd feb. According to my friend in VW plant in pune, they have started production of POLO as well as POLO sedan.
I'm eagerly waiting for POLO launch and detailed review from GTO.

By the way, is the Polo build quality even better than the "i" ? Things will clear out when the car will be seen in person.
My personal opinion is that the "i" is just loose metal sheets bolted together, even compared to their own earlier Accents or Santros. really, the accents and santros had much more build quality, fit and finish. the dash on i20s looks and feel really cheap, like chinese imitation plastics and the knobs are real let down. even the steering feels like dead wood and lifeless. it is such a bland car with no life even in highways and at anytime, the old santros were more fun to drive.

In fact, I think VW should forget the 1.6 and bring this in as their (Polo) range topper, halo-model, whatever.
Let the hoi polloi buy the 1.2 versions in the droves to keep VW going, and give some of us something to keep US going!

Interestingly the 1.2 diesel is a totally new engine and is still not launched anywhere in the world. Get ready for some unproven VW technology.

Has it gone on sale yet? I've seen the TD reports, but I think its goes on sale at about the same time...ie Apr no? (BTW, reviews say it sounds like a tractor)

Even if its on sale, its JUST launched so we dont know much of a history on it. Think old Bluemotion was the 1.4d seen on Fabia.

Spotted the same Polo with European Plates, a test car as the sticker on the windscreen indicates . Looked very neat and just love the front.

Judging by the Rpm meter, it is a diesel (6000rpm max) but then a bound manual looking book shouts 1.6L 77KW?? I didnt know the Polo was getting a 1.6 diesel heart.

Automatic climate control , black/grey interior , I guess this is going to be the 1.6 Petrol powered one.

But I didn't know that the central console itself will be so different ! Even externally the contour of the tail lamps are also looking better.

How come that polo has a totally different dashboard? even the German one does not have it. Is it some other car's dashboard ticked into it?

This is the actual highline interior of the India model.

mmm! That Black polo looks delicious!

With the pricing details that sid has given us, the 1.6 will be fantastic!

Dreaming of a black one with nice large rims, low profile + wide tires!

It's gonna be awesome

PS: Can't wait to read GTO's review on it!

Nice pics V-16. Thats definitely the Euro-spec Polo. Note the all-black dashboard, automatic climate control, detailed headlamps and tail lights, and the lack of indicators on the front fender (means they must be integrated into the OVRMs). Only confusing bit is the shape of the dashboard and the A/C vents... have never seen round ones in the Polo before.

Methinks VW are testing larger engines for the forthcoming Polo sedan now. The 1.2 diesel must be inadequate for the extra weight of a sedan, so hence the 1.6 diesel is being considered. That must explain this car's presence in India.
