Re: SCOOP: Chevrolet Sail *Sedan* spied testing. Clear PICS on Page 9, 11, 18 & 20

Interesting perspective.

Point taken. If seen positively like you, it is actually good to have power window button near the gear since i too mostly drive the car only with right hand and its awkward to lower the power window

I dont think GM is going to tinker too much between hatch and sedan versions anyway.

I'd forgotten to mention this..

It hints at cost-cutting.

The Sail is sold in the Chinese market which is a LHD market. The positioning of the power-window switches ensures that they don't need to be tinkered with when they sell the car in a RHD market. I'm sure they had this in mind when they designed the positioning of the switches.

Also, it's not a 'positive' approach. I just call a spade a spade. As you can see from my criticisms in the previous posts.

There were 5 of these cars on Mumbai - Pune Exp.way yesterday. Looks like these are the same cars as were sighted by Dr.Suraj.

The last photograph from the above posts puts the rear in a rather 'bulby' perspective in my opinion , like the new fiesta where there is so much rear that the tyres look small and overall a rather bulky look.

finally, they've removed the logo masking. Launch should be round the corner.

BTW, is it legal to drive around with just "SAIL" on the number plates? I thought even the test mules should have temporary registration if they intented to run on public roads.

The car seems to have tinted glasses too.

And now, Chevrolet has put up the webpage for the SAIL sedan. Guess the launch should be pretty close enough.

Elegant exterior styling, in my opinion. Far better than other boot jobs.

Unlike the Sail hatch, this sedan looks well proportioned and is stylish from any angle you see.

looks exciting. i would surely consider it for my future buying decisions. good effort GM

Below quote from GM website talks about 1.2L petrol engine doing duty on this car !! if i am not wrong this is not a sub 4m car, so why on earth did GM not give it a bigger heart ? disappointing !! i guess they only feel diesels will sell

Quote:
Outstanding Performance: The Chevrolet SAIL with its 1.3l SMARTECH Turbo-charged Diesel Engine mated to the premium F17 super-slick transmission or the 1.2l SMARTECH Petrol Engine with Dual Overhead Camshafts mated to the SH 63 Transmission redefine performance & efficiency standards in the class. The smooth steering, well-balanced suspension and accurate braking systems are finely tuned for Indian road conditions.

on the looks & design part.

But, regarding the 1.2L petrol part, I guess they want the owners happy with good mileage numbers (another forum member @indivous is getting good mileage from his Sail UVA) rather than earning bad name with the masses with bad fuel economy).

Chevy has the Cruze for the enthusiasts to be cheering for.

Lesson learnt from Aveo i guess. forget 1.6, not even 1.4l this time.

Honda has 1.5l engine powering the city and it is well known for its efficiency and decent power. looks like no one wants to invest in a good petrol engine anymore in india(baring Ecoboost from ford)

HaHa... yes, bigger engine means lower efficiency, unless it is from Honda (City) or Toyota (Corolla).

But, Aveo was under average car with dynamics as good as the Tata Manza, & there was no diesel either. I won't pay Rs.8.5 Lacs for that one.

Chevrolet has begun a teaser campaign of the Sail saloon on its website. Just like its hatchback sibling, the Sail saloon’s styling, both inside and out, is on the conservative side. However, its spacious cabin will give it an edge over the Maruti Swift Dzire, which will be its chief rival.

Like the U-VA, the Sail will be powered by a 1.3-litre diesel engine and a 1.2-litre petrol engine. Interestingly, Chevrolet will not offer a 1.4-litre petrol on the Sail as earlier believed.

While I prefer the looks of the car, I would want them to have the B pillers / door sills painted in black. It would add to the class looks of the car and perhaps a chrome stripe too!
