So, can they really price it that low when our home grown majors with very high localisations and volumes have not been able to achieve for years is the question. BTW, if they somehow manage something like that then .

Does anybody have any idea about what is the localisation % for the Duster?

You are absolutely correct, given the way Renault has its current offerings priced I doubt a SUV (even a mini one) would fit in that price range, but it is just hoping against hope

Re: Renault Duster. EDIT : Now confirmed for India!

It is confirmed that petrol will start from 6.8 and diesel will start from 8.
As for the localization, came to know its 80% by value of the vehicle. Press release will be tomorrow in autoexpo.

Thats a killer price tag. Finally renault had the intelligence to price the product competitively. Any indications about the launch date?

Re: Renault Duster. EDIT : Now confirmed for India!

I am just hoping its true that it will be priced around 8 for diesel. Any information on the 4x4 versions and the engine specs? Is it the 110 power engine?

Re: Renault Duster. EDIT : Now confirmed for India!

Thanks Sridhar. I requested a brochure from their site, giving in my details, however instead of a brochure I received a standard reply, "Thank you for your request. You will receive a copy of the Renault Duster brochure after its official launch in January 2012. "

The website though has displayed the following features for the Indian Duster:

Stylish chrome grille Twin barrel headlamps 16'' alloy wheels Front fog lamps ABS with Brake Assist & EBD Dual front airbags Rear defogger, rear wiper & washer Electrically adjustable ORVMs Rear parking sensors A boot capacity of 475 litres.

The website also mentions the following:

-plush leather upholstery
-keyless entry
-4-speaker music system with USB, AUX-IN, Bluetooth and satellite audio connectivity with phone control

So looks like there will be a nicely loaded top-end version like many of us are hoping for.

Though, I wonder what is "satellite audio connectivity with phone control".

That pic on the Renault website shows the following two very interesting things at the back:

1. "2.0"
2. "4WD"

Edit: I have also requested for a copy of the brochure! Waiting eagerly for our gurus to put a review of the Duster from the expo...already thrilled!!!

Some of the pics on the site are same since June 2011. See here.

All pics are taken from a very low angle to make it look tall

Good catch there. But some SUVs like Tucson show 4wd but do not have low ratio. Lets see.

Re: Renault Duster. EDIT : Now confirmed for India!

Atleast something good from Europe again, but when?

Should be drivers car/vehicle as all other European vehicles available are famous for. Contemporary style, all terrain capabilities and suitable for Indian driving conditions. I would rate it on top from all other upcoming/rumoured compact SUVs.

Satellite audio was better known to Indians as Worldspace radio in which you had a choice of several radio stations that were broadcast by satellite. This required a small dish antenna to be installed (akin to Tata Sky) but this meant that the device was not portable i.e. you couldnt take your Worldspace player (similar to other portable cassette / CD music players) to someone elses house. Unfortunately the company shut down & I dont think there are an other players in the Idnan market so I dont know how the car will ensure satellite audio connectivity.

Oh yes, the pricing is fantastic!

Re: Renault Duster. EDIT : Now confirmed for India!

I just spoke to Renault Dealership in Mumbai. Pointers:-
1. Bookings have started. They are taking 50K deposit (fully refundable). However the representative told me that such cancellations can be done only after the car reaches there dealership and if we aren't content with the offerings of the car.
2. They expect prices for Diesel 4X4 to be in the range of 11-12 lacs onroad. This obviously is anyone's guess at the moment and it is best to wait for Renault India to declare the prices officially.
3. Deliveries will probably start in June/July. But, it can start sooner as well.

So in one line: A fuzzy response with everything. Ofcourse. Wait-n-watch.
