@ aditya79india: I believe that the engine you saw was for a commercial vehicle application. Simple means to identify: check out the size of the turbo; you generally find such a huge turbo only on commercial vehicles that are designed for lots of load carrying. another point is the size of the engine and its packaging (as pointed out by vinumon), it's not designed for a car and thats for sure. Have a look at the existing 2.2 VTT Dicor engine and you'll get an idea...

There will be choice of interiors based on car color

Beige interiors is also dual tone
From all the pictures I have seen, I like the beige/ black one most.

Do we have a picture where the AWD shift to 4x2 or low/high switch is showing.

nice catch there.
how come everyone who went there missed it altogether?
those specs are really impressive. 470nm torque!!!!

and yeah. aria is a definite step forward for TATA Motors and gives us a general idea of things to come from TATA. They took such definite steps with launch of indica vista and indigo manza. and now tata aria!!! it just doesn't feel like a car from a homegrown manufacturer. look at those different options available for interiors. look at the features available. take a bow TATA.

and now next-gen safari (not the minor facelift, spy pics of which are doing rounds) and honda city competitor (based on Pr1ma) would be things to watch out for next.

Sandy: why do they have that many pop down type compartments in roof?

3L Dicor The rumor is true? Is it the same engine that was called the DICOR ( 115bhp one that came in the Tata Safari? )

i cant understand why they have kept such a big boot with the third row being so cramped? they could have easily shifted the second & third rows behind for more leg space.

or maybe the tapering roof does not allow that as if the third row is moved behind, it will be really short on headroom. whatever be the reasons, the aria needs more legroom in both the second as well as third rows.

The spec sheet reads :

4 cylinders, 3 Liter displacement

16 valves, Turbocharged and intercooled

Max power 193ps

Max torque 470 Nm

High pressure common rail fuel system

Euro 4 emissions, upgradeable to euro V and above

After treatment system for EURO IV and beyond

Available in 2 versions - for GVW greater than 3.5 tonnes and less than 3.5 tonnes

......which means, this engine's gonna be available in the NG Safari and the ARIA in the future. The ARIA zooming ahead dramatically, posted by someone in this thread's earlier avatar might have been the one with this engine in test.

AND ITS A 6 SPEED GEARBOX

Tucked in a corner behind one of the low floor busses was this........

It appears that the engine was displayed close to where its application lay.
(atleast for the time being)

(From Page-7, post 94)

Tata Starbus with automated manual transmission, on a new chassis range: Tata Motors has developed a brand new platform for fully-built buses and chassis. With a choice of 10 chassis platforms (with and without front overhang), the new range can render itself to 33 different seating and comfort – standard, semi-luxury, luxury -- configurations of fully-built buses for intra-city, tourist, school, and office transportation in budget, comfort and luxury options. The variant on display is a 27-seater.

The range meets the requirements of the proposed bus body code. The spacious interiors, parabolic leaf-spring suspension with anti-roll bar both at the front and rear, engine-driven air-conditioning and lowest NVH in its class, provide excellent ride and comfort. It can be adapted to both single and double door options and is powered with a new generation Tata 3-litre DICOR BS-IV compliant engine. Power steering, both tilt and telescopic type, and automated manual transmission (6-speed cable shift) make maneuverability easy. Tata Motors will market the bus, both as a fully-built unit and as a chassis for customers to design their own configurations.

Looks like the Polo. Might be a oversight while posting.

Overall, the Aria looks promising. Only the backside seems a bit unfinished. In fact just thinking about it - this issue is similar to the Manza - good front and side profile, well thought out interiors and back looks straight out of the 80s - both Manza and Aria have a lot of similarities IMHO.

I just hope Tata price the base version below 11 (OTR) and still have 2 airbags/ABS as standard - remove cruise control, GPS, ESP, park assist, multiple interior options, 4 wheel drive and still have a decent vehicle (essentially the same spec as the top spec Innova). Then we'll have a real fight on the cards

Today Yahoo India has also reported that Aria will be launched in 3 months time and will be priced between 12.5 to 14 Lakhs. Aria will be launched in 3 variants.

there is absolutely no reason why the 4X2 Aria should be priced higher than the base innova. Apart from a couple of airbags and a couple of other gadgets, there is nothing in there to justify the higher price. Surely they would want to price it below the innova.

Yahoo India has just lifted their article from FE or Autocar.

Very unlikely. The 115 bhp 3.0 Liter the old cast iron block from the Tata 407 with a common rail fuel injection. The new engine is more likely a contemporary unit like the 2.2 DICOR which has no connection with the 3.0 DICOR.

I am almost certain that the middle row can be moved forward to give more legspace to the third row. Besides it becomes pointless to have three three rows of seats facing forward with no luggage space like in the Scorpio.

I appreciate TATA thinking reasonable luggage space in their ARIA.
The seat width appears to be broader, this could make real difference along with slide adjust.

Strictly speaking in terms of niggle free, reliable brand TATA is still to prove their ARIA reliability comparable / on par with very established Toyota's reliable brand INNOVA.

The only way to turn an INNOVA / Toyota prospect customer to decide about TATA's Aria, TATA must offer a) 20% low TATA prices advantage compared to Toyota, Honda b) Five years warranty on ARIA c) Total QC enhancement of TATA from factory assembly line to TASS/TASC workshop floor to be realized and felt by TATA car owners.

TATA should price and build ARIA brand similar to VISTA/Manza way a perfect blend of good leaped QC levels , segment breaking great features and VFM pricing.

I Pray TATA learnt their LESSON of Righly Positioning New brand and pricing it right from day1 from TATA's own earlier futile Grande i & MKii effort
