Maruti at the Auto Expo 2010!

Link to Maruti Eeco Pictures and information

The Eeco launch was only scheduled for Thursday. However, that didn't stop Maruti from making their pavilion one of the most interesting and well presented stalls at the expo. They had a wide variety of cars and bikes on display, including a decent mashup of modded cars from their existing range.

Though we'll start with the Suzuki Kizashi which really wowed us with its well proportioned styling.

Absolutely loved the rear. Was stylish and well sculpted. Notice the twin exhaust outlets formed directly into the bumper.
Maruti at the Auto Expo 2010!-02-p1030143.jpg

Nothing fancy from the side, but its rare to find a well proportioned sedan these days!
Maruti at the Auto Expo 2010!-03-p1030141.jpg

Looks more like a volvo or an audi than a suzuki. Thats a compliment when talking about the latter half.

3rd stoplight is integrated with the boot-lid, which stands out a little too much on the lighter colored cars.

You can see the single pipe split for the twin tailpipes.

Clear reseblance to the frontend of its smaller sibling - the SX4

Though the interiors were fairly plain and dull, the quality and feel of everything was top notch. GTO even commented that they were on-par with his C-class.

I guess the pictures might not do the car justice, but it definitely left us impressed.
Lets just hope that Maruti doesn't end up sacrificing the quality or smaller styling elements of the Kizashi when bringing it in to India!

Next up : The rIII (r3) Concept.

If i'm not mistaken, this was a concept car designed and fabricated by Maruti's team entirely in India itself!

A neat looking MPV for sure.

Suicide doors opening up to some very cool seats.

Notice the small touches of the triangular profile of the seat hinge and the way the seatbelt comes out of a metallic gromet, with the clip on the other side being similar.

Look at the way the headrests come all the way up the back of the seat.

The Maruti pavillion consisted of one central hall, with several smaller areas radially around it. They seemed to have put in a lot of effort to display things other than just cars - like you could see in any showroom.

The central area, housing a Kizashi, the R3 and a few others
Maruti at the Auto Expo 2010!-img_2274.jpg

A little restaurant area, below which is a room full of touchscreen computers where you could configure your Maruti (color, wheels, interiors, steering wheel etc)
They could even email you your completed configuration. Ofcourse, the fact that none of the customization options are actually available to us in reality is a different story!!

And here it is! The "Engine of the year" (link (Engine of the year 2009)) right next to the "National Engine" (Fiat's MJD)!
Maruti at the Auto Expo 2010!-p1030116.jpg

And add to that something "eco friendly" - as that was a running theme of Auto Expo 2010...

Along with the touchscreen computers, they had two Microsoft Surfaces running similar "car customization" software. My first time playing with one of these. (Video to follow sometime soon)

Nice description and pics Rehaan, Thanks!

Those alloys on the Swift in post #5 look wicked! Wish Maruti provided car customization solutions too.

Even in the pics the Kizashi looks solid like a thick-skinned rhino!

BTW, what are those cube thingies with the MS Surface for? I've played with a MS Surface a bit but that didn't have any cubes for control/movement.

Gosh! How tasteless and ugly those mods are.Didn't expect a mainstream manufacturer to present such tacky mods.

The R3 concept draws inspiration from the new 2010 Opel Meriva it seems, suicide doors et al.!

@rehaan
Brilliant in-detail report. Thanks

Kizashi looks very good and a serious threat to Accord and Superb, If Maruti brings it as is with out any stripping and degrading job.

The way you showed the two silencer thing was really good

Clay model and the tools used to make it also were interesting. Only on Team-BHP we find this kinda stuff.

And why are the interiors of Swift and Ritz white-washed! it looks so Ugly.

Loved the white-bluish ritz. looks good unlike most of the other concepts. what were they thinking of when they penned the designs for the kits in the 3rd last and the 4th last pics!!!

The cars have so much plastic that Maruti might have needed a small plastic factory at their factory premises!!!

Will post my pics too tomorrow (if I can find something special, no point repeating pics and overloading the server).

Nice pics Rehaan!!

The alloy wheel of SX4 looks good and why can't they provide this for the current face lifted SX4.

What's special with Dzire Luxury? any interior pics?

Why all manufactures have a model near the car always(some times it distracts me ) just to give pose for Photo.

Yuck - some of the mod jobs are beyond horrendous...the pink/purple/magenta/mauve A-star looks like a piglet with a tail.

Some of the customized marutis look like they were tailor made for the wild and wacky mods thread.
Does anyone else see the VW influences in the Kizashi or is it just me?

OT : Sad looking models, whats wrong this year?
