Skoda at the Auto Expo 2010

Hello Yeti!

Skoda at the Auto Expo 2010-p1030481.jpg

It was definitely the crowd catcher at the Skoda stall -- and even with 3 of them on display it was hard to get any alone-time with the latest offering from Skoda.

The Yeti, targeted at the SUV yearning yuppie crowd, will slot into the void in the SUV/Soft-roader market between the Safari and the Captiva/Fortuner. Since Honda has now gone far north with the CRV pricing, you can expect a lot of people to look at the Yeti instead.

Skoda at the Auto Expo 2010-p1030478.jpg

The vehicle itself doesn't have a huge or imposing stance - but it clearly has the premium feel and brand image that Skoda has working to its advantage here in India.

It will come with the 2.0L TDI (same as offered on the Superb & Laura L&K), along with the possibility of the 1.8TSI being offered at a later date.

Expect some of the in-cabin goodies that have made the Superb so popular in India.

The intelligent 4x4 will be standard on the Yeti along with a 6-speed manual gearbox.

The rear bench, offered with the combi-flex seating from skoda...

...each of the 3 rear seats (left, center, right) can be individually removed.

If the center seat is removed, the left and right seats can fill the gap by sliding sideways, allowing the rear passengers a little more elbow room.

The middle seat also flips down to make an armrest w/ cupholder

The Superb Combi on display :

Given the fact that station-wagons aren't hot sellers in the Indian market (due to image perception, higher pricing & lower resale) makes it unlikely that Skoda will make any moves to bring this to our shores.

EDIT : More pics with interiors
According to Skoda, they brought the Combi to get public response. However, while most people like it, they say for this much money they will prefer the Sedan due to "image" issues, moreover the Sedan has adequate boot space. So slim chance this will come to India

The Fabia :

Skoda at the Auto Expo 2010-p1030454.jpg

The Fabia Greenline, which is skoda's term similar to how BMW use "efficient dynamics" or Mercedes use "blue efficiency".

Basically its a collection of small changes (lowered weight, tweaked aerodynamics, etc) that add towards lower emissions and better fuel economy, so displaying it was along the "eco" theme of Auto Expo 2010.

Good Photo's Rehaan!
Why Skoda is displaying even yeti in LHD and when they are planning to launch it here.
I feel that yeti looks like big brother of Fabia.

Hi Rehaan,

Great Skoda Pictures. Any idea about the pricing of Yeti. Wonderful alloy wheels in photos. That is your specialty. Your eyes look all details of automobiles through the lens.

Yeti is probably the ugliest car, next only to swift dzire.

The reason for the confusion between the plate reading Laura and the car reading Octavia is because all over the world, it is an Octavia, which we indians are happily buying as Laura. Similar story to the Pajero. The so-called 'Pajero' we have in India is an erstwhile model. The current model is actually the so-called 'Montero'. People still go ahead and buy the old stuff at new prices. Be my Guests.
