Though the numbers are high for both Maruti and Hyundai, these numbers are compared to Jan 09 which was anyway low. Also this is a good stock build up for the March fiscal year end. Do need to wait and see how this trend goes as the demand stabilizes in the next 2 to 3 months.

I believe Manza has a slow entry to catch up with DZire. I observed an average of at least 2 new cars moving out of Concorde Motors daily. The figure is approximate. Manza is a growing image of new entry and need to prove its capability with respect to time.

Really appreciate Hyundai's work in India on creating confidence. Imagine if Hyundai was not there, Maruti would have had more count to show in their sales. I see the whole picture changing in a year with the new hatchbacks coming this year.

Maruti has been good in the service & reliability but they have been taking the consumers for a ride with their offerings.

Btw I have owned all maruti vehicles till now

GM is doing a good job with the new launches. Cruze seems to be settling down at 700 odd units. The beat would probably reach the Spark levels in terms of numbers or even exceed it. Depends to see how this goes.

Maruti Suzuki Segment-wise.

M800 ---2494 units.
Omni + Eeco ---10923 units.

Alto, Wagon-R, Estilo, ---58540 units.
Swift, A-Star, Ritz

SX4, DZire --- 8995 units.
Gypsy, Grand Vitara --- 135 units.
  • Seems like eeco had a good month first up. Not sure whether these include vehicles sent to dealers, or actual customers.
  • With such insignificant (for maruti, compared to overall) sales for Gypsy, will Maruti bother to make it meet BS4 norms?

Another month, and Civic (644 units) is still lagging behind Cruze (686 units)!

76 for CR-V against 72 for Captiva. GM sure is giving tight competition to Honda in the premium segment.

Overall a very good month for car manufacturers in India.

Can't wait for the Figo to hit the roads. In my opinion, if the Figo does come in at the end of February, people would be well advised to wait and check it out.

Honda selling close to 4500 units of the city is astounding, it's an expensive car and at first glance it seems to be selling more than considerably cheaper cars like the Manza (I assume that the Indigo CS is still selling well).

Fiat's numbers, though small, are a huge increase over the last few years. As we see more and more cars on the road, it's going to slowly create a name for itself again. It needs a publicity blitz along with some key improvements in the products, like interiors in the Punto and the Linea T-Jet.

'10000 Chevy Beat booked in 24 days' ..wow.
Looks like the car is well received by Indian customers. Spark will suffer a little bit due to this because of the small overlap but this is overall gain to GM. I think spark will continue with 3.5- 4K mark and Beat will settle around 4-5K mark. If it can 'beat' that then it would be a blockbuster like 'wanted' (as no body expected it to be a such a good hit )

Just forgetting about the base effect (the Last year Volume), companies have following YoY % growth to show for their efforts in 4 wheelers and Commercial segment

Domestic/Export . .Total(CY) . .Total(LY) . .% growth . .New Launches
Maruti. . .81,087/14,562 . . .95,649 . . . .71,779 . . . .33.3% . . . .2 (eeco+ritz)
Hyundai . 29,601/23,034 . . .52,635 . . . .37,171 . . . .41.6% . . . .0 (None)
Mahindra 28,998/0 . . . . . . 28,998 . . . . 17,320 . . . 67.4% . . . . 1 (Xylo)
Tata . . . 2,969/3,276 . . 26,245 . . . . 18,331 . . . .74.0% . . . .3 (Nano +Manza +Grande MK2)
Fiat . . . . 2,302 / 0 . . . . . .2,302 . . . . . 1,580 . . . . 45.0% . . . 1 (Punto)
GM . . . . 9,421/0 . . . . . . . 9,421 . . . . . 3,937 . . . .139.0% . . .2 (cruze+ Beat)
Honda . . 5,983 /0 . . . . . . .5,983 . . . . . 5,773 . . . . .3.0% . . . 1(Jazz)

I see few important inferences from this trend. The more the newer models in kitty the better are the sales growth for individual companies. i.e.

a) Growth is being driven mainly by newer models. (Maruti/GM/Tata)

b) Hyundai is doing the most amazing numbers, without a single new model in last one year, their YoY sales has increased, which simply means the acceptability & quality of their previous year models being better than newer models.

c) Honda is the Biggest disappointment, Despite having 1 Hatch launch in kitty Hyundai (zero Launches) Outshone Honda in Growth terms, Infact 3% in growth economy is less than even GDP number Too Bad. wow for Hyundai. Also see the headlines of Honda news starts with YTD sales growth instead of YoY sales. Pretty disappointing considering Jazz just won COTY at CnB awards. I am sure they won't show the same arrogance again when they launch their new HB.

d) GM almost nearing 10K. wow again. Chevy seems to be doing great with its cars, being just the fourth car company nearing 10K. Goes on to show their commitment and increased acceptability. (M&M can be excluded here which is really a SUV company)

Toyota hasn't announced their, Probably focusing more on the immediate global level concern.
