+1. From what i know, the Type 1 tail lamps were sturdier. Type 2 tail lamps crack easily.

I have a 05' Type 1(if you can call it so..) IMO It looks bigger, better because of neat lines of the bumper. It's also getting sparse on the road which works for me. It's got orange and red dials and no chrome rings on the dash.

The newer models can easily identified by the tail lamps and the rear number plate space which is not a rectangle.

The front bumper of type 2 is definitely better looking

The fog lights housing look much smooth flowing.

From the discussion what I can conclude is , the difference is more Cosmetic than Technical.

also in the type2 swift the car is slightly higher(the front) ie, the bonnet slightly seems risen than the type1 which is normal.
next time u look at them check for this differnece
