Most often seen 'broken down' cars on Indian roads!!

Hi,

Almost everyday while driving on our roads, we do see cars which are stranded and 'broken down'. I want to see if we can group our observations together to arrive at frequently seen cars which often 'break down' on the roads- for all valid reasons!!

I recollect the last 3 cars seen in couple of days which were stranded on the roads and also had led to considerable traffic pile up behind:

1. Indica-private owned, seems to be some issue in the engine compartment area(bonnet was up with fumes)
2. Tavera- Taxi, had a broken down front suspension
3. Fiat-Premier Padmini, seems to be some issue with the gear engagement as the car was running but would not move forward.

Mods, if you find this repetitive or irrelevant feel free to delete.

maximum broken down cars I ve seen over the last few years in and around Bangalore have been Tata Indica Taxis and BPO Sumos - I guess it is because generically, these taxi drivers/ fleet owners tend to over-use all their cars and not service them or take appropriate preventive maintenance measures.

I have the same observations as Shankar above.
I dont read too much into it, since its a fact that these vehicles are highly abused, and pampered the least in terms of maintenance. Finally, they give up sometime.

Its a different story that we dont find Qualises broken down by the roadside.

Just saw a Verna broken down on Hyd-Bglr highway (it was not a puncture)

Apart from that, it is generally the taxis with balding tires & with dents all over

+1 to that. Indicas and Sumos top the list of bd cars on Blore roads. Indicas, for some strange reason breakdown more when it rains.

i would add to the chorus of indicas being the most broken down- but given the fact that most of these are taxis, i guess bad maintenance would also be a contributing factor

In Bangalore on Inner ring road I see all sorts of vehicle so can't generalize. Incidentally I do not remember seeing a broken down vehicle on any other road for past many months

In last few days I Saw a Toyota Corolla with open bonnet and owner making calls on his cell a Ford Icon with owner waiting. A Skoda ( dont remember the model ) being towed away.

Edit : Ohh yah once it was my own old Maruti 800 ( about 2 years back) when Exide battery gave away

On monday 25.01.2010, saw a Hyundai Accent broken down in the middle of the road and causing a huge traffic jam. This was on the road connecting Ashoka pillar to Hosur road.

The answer to this depends on the sales of the car too. How often do you see a broken down S-Class? Oh wait a minute! How often do you spot an S-Class in the first place? Trying to get a conclusive answer on reliability using empirical observations is unlikely to work. And all this is without the rather important knowledge of how the owner maintained the car.

Tata Indica-The call centre yath is one of the most break down prone cars.
Premier Padmini Taxis-Spurious spare part usage and no maintenance.
I have also seen a good no. of Tata Sumos lying dead on the road.

Mostly Tata Indicabs (taxis).

On one particular occasion I saw a Yellow Fiat Palio S10 broken down on the AIIMS flyover.
