Spied – 2010 Mercedes Benz C250 CGI on Indian soil. EDIT : Maybe not after all

Mercedes Benz will launch the new C 250 CGI in India very shortly. These are the spyshots which according to them were picked up at a Mercedes Benz showroom in Bangalore.
The Mercedes Benz C250 CGI comes with a 1.8-liter Turbocharged Direct Injection gasoline engine that generates 200bhp of max power and 31.6kgm of max torque.
The newest C-Class can reach 100kmph from standstill in 7.2 seconds. We don’t have an idea about the price, but we’ll soon get to know.

Thats not a C 250 CGI, but a normal C 250 avantgarde, launched at the auto expo. Its just a re-named C 230 with 2.5 IDI V6 with 204 bhp. CGI will not come as of now.

Sorry for asking this but what exactly is this engine that Mercedes-Benz is using under the C/E 250 models in India? I tried to verify from german website but this engine does not exist in any of the new models?

Regards

Looks awesome. IMO, it looks more like a Merc C 250. I can be wrong. Awesome steal if it is actually a C 250 CGI.

As Sid posted, this is basically a rebadged C230 V6 petrol. Mercedes has renamed the C230, as internationally, its model nomenclature has been rounded off to the nearest 50 (e.g. either C200, C250 or C300). All models.

If you ask me, the C230 (now C250) is the most pointless car in the segment. The C220 diesel is quicker (and more fuel efficient as well) while petrol lovers will do just as well with the C200 Kompressor. The C250 will also depreciate like stink, as all top-end German petrols do.

So does MB India have such a huge R&D budget that they could re-engineer the W212 for an engine which is not available anywhere besides India? I'm talking about this 250 engine which is not available anywhere in the W212, so for the limited volume that India gives them would it not have been a better option to just get the CGI motor then spend so much on getting this engine into the bay?

Sorry if im not making sense but why exactly are they not getting CGI motors here?

It seems after all, the CGI has finally hit the Indian markets...
The C220 CGI, being in contention with the BMW's 3 Series, the Audi A4 as well as the Honda Accord V6 and the Skoda Superb V6, will turn and churn minds... I realistically expect it to be a bestseller in the entry level luxury car segment...

Its also soothing that a Chennai born, IIT Mumbai alumnus, hailing from Mumbai ( Mr Bharat Balasubramaniam) who is Vice President, Mercedes Benz, is the man who has pioneered the new CGI ( Charged Gasoline Injection) technology for the new C Class. He is the no. 2 at the global Merc R&D set up.
