+1 to that. This car is awesome with very understated looks. People would mistake it with a 1.8TDi diesel Octavia.

Fiesta 1.6s
Octavia 1.8 TPI
Laura 1.8 TSI
i20 Petrol 1.4
Chevrolet Cruze

It was tempting to add Verna CRDI for its stonker of a engine. But, I have personally seen 5 Vernas in my friends and family that have toppled doing high speeds (in Indian context, above 80 Kmph). They have hit potholes, medium size stones or were swirling before toppling. I have reservations on Verna's stability at high speeds (above 80 Kmph) and lack of safety features like airbags doesn't help either.

your kidding right. "power packed performance"...yeah if you compare it to a truck

the thread title states "India's ultimate sleeper cars currently in production "
so that rules out the baleno , OHC vtech palio etc.

If we call the Indian Swift 'sporty', then we're just inviting the manufacturers to continue to give us underpowered cars for another 10 years.

May I suggest that no car may be considered 'sporty' or a 'sleeper' unless it can dispatch 100km/h in less than 10 seconds. Furthermore, cars that can accelerate but have serious difficulty negotiating corners (e.g. Getz CRDI) also don't deserve the 'sporty' tag.
i totally agree with you.all if not, most of the "so called" good performance cars in India wont even be given a second look in other countries.why ? simply because they have better.

its extremely difficult to find cars running motors with a displacement of less than 2000 cc.but here from what we are provided these deserve the sporty tag.

a 3.0L V6 sounds really good.Untill its compared to a 5.0L V10.
there will always be bigger and better but we dont have a choice.

If my understanding of the thread is correct, we are talking about variants in any model which are unassuming like the rest but have performance features. We are not comparing an "X" Car with "Y" Car but rather trying to find out one variant in the "X" Car which is better than the remaining variants.

The normal image of a Bolero is a slow rural vehicle which cannot go much beyond 100kmph. Now the CRDe variant looks the same like the rest except a CRDe badge and Storm sticker. So when you keep pace with Scorpio's, Innova's and quite a few sedans on the highway, it does startle people. Now that is what I understand from a sleeper car.

P.S: While returning from Ladakh, I did the Ahmedabad to Vadodara on NE-1 in 44 minutes for a 88 Km stretch. As a matter of fact a X5 owner who I was keeping pace with got so cheesed off that he started doing rash and dangerous maneuvers. He must be having sleepless nights thinking the Rural 7 lakh Bolero keeping pace with his 70 Lakh car.

The ultimate sleeper : Laura TSI. Skoda only sells it in the basic trim level, thus no RS like skirts & flashy colours to give an indication of what's under the hood. Plus, most people equate Skoda to diesels and hence, would dismiss the car off as a mere 105 BHP diesel.

Until the light turns green . That engine makes the TSI accelerate as fast as a 271 BHP Accord V6 or BMW 325. Direct injection rocks!

If price was not a criteria, my choice would be this: 290 bhp from 3.0 supercharged V6, 0-100 in 6 seconds.

In my understanding about the sleeper car concept, i feel the Octavia 1.8 Turbo model would make a good contender. It looks like any other normal car, not very flashy unlike its vRS sibling and still packs 150 bhp. Its a rocket in disguise indeed!

Stonker of an engine indeed, the Superb too manages to get similar performance as the laura with the same engine thanks to it's 7 speed DSG. Besides just the power, the refinement is spectacular. It's smooth and super silent, some might want to hear the engine more at lower rpms and feel the need for a light more torque. But then again, I'm not complaining

drove my friend's 1.8T on M-P expressway and it smoothly crossed 200kph like butter on hot pan.

ok i woudl accept all other option in your list but

MS Swift DZire

no way .....

i doubt the lancer falls in this category. great understated looks but the 1.5L 4g15 engine that it sports in india in a real damper... plock an mivec and then we are talking sleepers yet as per the OP no mods allowed.

How would a 160 hp Laura accelerate as fast as a 271 hp Accord? It's just not physics.
